prop bets
 

I wasn't sure where to mention this, so I put it here since it takes place in my home game and is specific only to live play.

What are some good prop bets while playing? We had a couple going last session for very menial amounts compared to stacks IE a small blind in 200BB stack NLHE.

Anyway, I'd like all suggestions, especially the most entertaining ones.

phil ivey lost 250k at the turningstone championship to barry greenstein, for prop betting which color the flop would be for several hours. he had to win the tournament just to break even he says.

Here's one of my favorites to pass the time when you are not playing a lot of hands. My buddy play tight and fold a lot of hands so we bet single chip who would have had the best hand had we stayed in. You have to be sitting beside each other for it to work though.

I think in an interview Phil was giving examples of prop bets (not sure if these are the specific props he was doing with Greenstein). Bet on whether the flop will be mostly red or black. Player wins double if the flop is all his color.

BTW, I believe 1st place at TStone was over 500K, and 2nd was 240K, so he "only" needed to finish second [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] to break even for the weekend.

Basically you're looking for anything that's a 50/50 proposition. You could pick a middle number (8 if A is high; 7 if it's low) and bet whether the flop will be above or below that number

Red & black is fun.

1) One chip per hand per player (2 players for obvious reasons)
2) the color with the most cards at the river wins. The river must be seen.
3) No river means the bet is doubled for the next hand.

If you are good, you will break even. But its good for a laugh, and a nasty look from the dealer if he or she gets confused due to the side action.

The "yes" is favored.

Grab up all the even-money that you can.

I'm also too Lazy to do the math ( or too stoopid?) but i imagine that if a majority of players see the flop, even the piss-poor calling standards of most low limit players will not include many 2's- 4's which might tip the odds a bit towards making this a profitable bet?

12 cards x three chances = 36 out of 52

correct odds are 36/52 = 69.2%
