Anybody read/heard of \"Tournament Poker & The Art Of War\"??

Just saw it in the bookstore today; it's only been out about a month. Wondering if it's worth picking up. Thanks...

I just read it and found it extremely worthwhile. The book is very interesting and well written. It dissects Sun Tzu's Art of War and shows how you can use it to improve your play in no limit tournaments. It is really geared toward no limit tournaments as there is a lot of discussion about how to implement your chip stack to maximum force. While the concepts addressed are easy to follow, this is not a book for beginners.

I've read it, and it's likely that my review of it will appear in Poker Player in the near future. Short answer: If you're tickled by the concept, feel free to check it out, but I didn't find it to be very interesting.

If you took out the concept that tournaments are about chip accumulation but also survival, you'd have half the book gone...

Thx... With my $5 off coupon from Brentano's I think I'll pick it up later today.

I haven't read this book yet but surprisingly enough I just won a freeroll tournament where a signed copy was the prize. The author was at a local bookstore doing autographs and decided to hold a free roll. I think the other players need the book more than I do though...

I just ordered and received it yesterday via UPS...I'll post more once I've read it. It is certainly more of an overall strategy or even better...what mindset and the things you should be thining about during a tournament than a play of hands or situations type book.

I just got this book as the subject interested me. My opinion after reading 3/4 of it is that it's a pile of garbage. So much bad advice that it's dangerous for a newbie. Guaranteed to have you making significant mistakes every tournament you play. Probably about 4 decent things out of the whole book, and none of them are anything a semi average player wouldn't already know. Very low quality.

It is good in one sense, if you can recognise the bad advice. It got me thinking from a new perspective, and coming up with new ideas, or reframing old ones.

Yep, like I said before--half the book is "you gotta accumulate chips and also survive". Stop the presses.

Larry Phillips and John Vorhaus books are much better fr this type of reading.
