For those of you who are wondering whether it is correct to raise a drawing hand like A-K preflop, mine is a cautionary tale: there go you but for the grace of god!

I don't think there is anything wrong with your play. Unfortunately, you ran into a very calling station.

You are an idiot. Do you see why? I'll let others elaborate.

EDIT: OK, I'll elaborate. Checking behind on the turn is idiotic. You hit your "drawing hand" and hit, so you check behind and give the guy a free chance to outdraw you. The turn raise looks good, but because of your flop check, i can't blame him for calling. On the river, you got outdrawn, sucks for you, but you did not play this hand well.

Agree. Checking top pair after the flop is very risky and rarely recommended. I dont like villains play either.Think he should have reraised much more.

Re: Why A-K sucks

One thing no one has mentioned is that by checking the flop, you make your opponent believe the ten might be good. THAT IS WHY HE STAYED IN THE HAND. Bet the flop. Secondly, if you want to think of AK as a "drawing" hand fine. AK is a one pair hand. One pair hands don't want a lot of opponents. That is why you raise preflop to limit the field.
My two cents.

Noone has commented that the guy was shortstacked.

As I see two ways to play the hand bet the flop show you hand and probably take a small pot, or check it give the small stack hope his trash is good and take his small stack from him.

On this if you check the flop I think you have to raise him all in on the turn, if he calls your turn bet he aint folding on the river.
