North Dakota + Internet Poker...who knew?

Cross posted in News and Gossip.

As a citizen of the great state of ND (yes, I'm admitting that), I just wanted to let those who do not keep up on North Dakota politics, that an internet poker bill is being considered. The state wants to tax and regulate some sites.

North Dakota Internet Poker Bill

Also, ND knows that a Federal fight would ensue and are prepared to battle it. Here's the link to an article about it.

Did you ever think that ND would/could be the "hot"bed of internet poker? Who knew?

We'll see how it plays out...

Wow... I think I just felt a twinge of pride about living in ND for something other than hockey.

Hmmm, people who want to run a poker site could:

A) Run a poker site on a warm tropical island and not pay taxes on their income

or

B) Run a poker site, pay taxes on their earnings, AND LIVE IN NORTH DAKOTA

Hmmmm, let me think which one sounds more enticing.

or

C) Run the first legalized online casino based on U.S. soil, and regulated by U.S. Gaming laws, and quickly become the largest online gambling site in the world. What they would make minus taxes would still blow most other sites out of the water.

maybe some of the sites should bring their support here so we can actually understand what they are saying instead of listening to a bunch of jibberish that doesnt even remotely solve the problem

I'll take an FDIC insured account and paying a rake in which 39.5% of the profit is handed to the government over a warm tropical island with some oversees account that anyday.

how is setting up an online pokerroom in ND going to change anything? ND is not the federal government. If something like this were to happen it seems like the only people who would legally be allowed to use the site would be people from ND. I fail to see also how it would "quickly become the largest online gambling site in the world."

That's why internet gambling is a tricky topic, even if a single jurisdiction says its okay, the internet is not limited to that jurisdiction. It might be a step in the right direction as far as gaining acceptance somewhat, but I really don't see an ND site making dramatic and fast changes in the online poker world for US citizens as you suggest.

Yup, that's South Dakota.

There could be some good names for a SD based poker room. Things having to do with Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, the Badlands....and more! Well, maybe not more.
