40-80 88 hand

Borg. 40-80 thursday night, the game is ok but not great, no real good player but no one who is totally horrible.
I have 88 UTG+1 suits don't matter
UTG, loose str8 forward, limps, I limp, Mp1 limps, co limps, SB calls, BB calls. 6 to the flop
flop is 532r
SB checks, BB checks, UTG bets, I raise, folded to the BB who calls, UTG calls.
turn is an offsuit 4
Check, check, I bet, BB folds, Utg calls
River is a 7
Utg checks, I bet, he calls.

Given the preflop call I like it, but I might raise preflop to try and isolate the UTG limper. Even if one of the blinds comes along, 88 is still a fine hand to have 3-way.

I see no value in the river bet. What is he going to call with that you beat?

With whatever he called the turn bet with. Also, notice the description of UTG as "straightforward".

The river bet is one of the things i was not sure about. I was gonna check and then i was like he is loose don't be a pussy bet, but i was and am not sure if there was/is any value in it.

River bet is no good, unless he is calling down with J high and such.

The only logical hand that he would call with on the turn and river that hero was ahead of just rivered a set.

Interesting hand. Two questions:

1. Why bet the river? Barring some information about UTG that you didn't give us, I don't think you'll get called by anything you beat.

2. On the turn, what was your plan if you had been check-raised? I think I would bet/fold the turn and check behind on the river.

I change my mind and conform the general opinion of the forum. Looks like villain has 99.

The best i can see you hoping for here is K5-K3s. Maybe a hand like A7s.

Edit: obviously A7s is no good for you. K7s. There, happy?
