you obviously cant blame the guy for calling you given that he had over 5x your stack and flopped trips with the ten kicker...but yeah i'd be pissed

if it makes you feel any better, i lost $40 last night in a heads up game when i made my Ace-high straight on the river (holding AK suited) and moved all-in, only to get called by my opponent holding 25 suited to make a 2-6 straight flush

You and I both go broke on that hand every time!

What can he possibly have on the flop when it's your call of the all-in? A duck, a queen, an odd pair. The odds of his having the duck/Queen hand at this point (I think I'm right here) are 2/1326; too small to worry about. You hope he has any one of the three hands above at that point.

I'll take the odds on the end that he has the case queen or any 8 every time, too. 4 outs = 10.2/1 against him beating you. (Plus the odds of his holding the duck/queen hand which is now 1/1326)

I'll play it just like you did EVERY TIME. Play it 11 times, you win 10 of them.

It was just a $20 buy-in. And with a Q10, as the chipleader, I'm doing the same as him every time. It just sucks to go out on a hand like that.

Yup, I agree that there's not really any way to avoid going broke on this hand. I've just never seen anything like that, my jaw hit the floor when that queen came. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Man, that truly sucks, I think tournament or cash game I'm losing all my chips or all the money I have at the table on that hand.

On a side note, the most painful hand i've ever seen was in the WPT Championships final of season 1 with Kirill Gerisimov against Allan Geirih:

[/ QUOTE ]Wow! That actually happened to me in a similar way last night on the 2/4 pp bb jackpot. I had the ace high flush, but he was holding 4 7 diamonds for the 3-7 straight flush....

FWIW, I am surprised that you have not gotten any flak for not going all in instead of the 1K bet on the flop. I think you were right and Allin would be wrong. As follows:

After the flop he has one way to be holding a duck, two ways to be holding a Q, and 66 ways to be holding another pair. (6 ways to hold AA, and 11 pairs not counting 2 &amp; Q). We assume that if he is holding anything else he folds.

Now, what is he thinking after your bet? He thinks you have 6 ways to hold 22, one way to hold a Q, and the same 66 ways to hold another pair. He probably thinks you hold another pair. If he holds the Q or a pair larger than 2s he thinks he has the advantage. He calls or raises.

If you push, he is now more suspicious that you have trip ducks or a BIG pair, therefore he is likely to fold the smaller pairs that he could be holding. Say 77 and down, which is 36 of his 69 possible hands. More than half the time, he could fold.

Since you want all his money on the table here, the 1K bet which invites a call or raise, is better than a push.

edit: If you KNOW you are playing against a very good player, the same bet which apparently begs a call or bluff, can occaisionally be used as a bluff. If he thinks at the third level, what does my opponent think I'm thinking? He may fold to the invite if he holds a good but not killer hand. This is a different play than the one you had, but uses the same bet. In this case, you are trying to get him to fold. (recommendation: don't try this very often, and never at the $10 or $20 level.)
