Another way to play AK

PP 100NL

4 handed, i have ~90 and would really like to double up quick here as there's an uber-fish with 350 to my right (BB in this hand)

I've been catching cold cards and have yet to raise preflop in the 15 or so orbits i've played.

I'm in CO with AKs

Villain is in SB, he's a complete lunatic and has raised the last 10 hands straight. he'll raise any two cards to 10 from a blind if people limp in, otherwise he's calling any raises. he rebuys to $100 after every hand, hence i am covered.

Button is insanely tight for 4 handed: VP$IP of 16% thus far. If he raises big i will fold all but AA/KK.

Preflop:
I limp UTG with AK[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], button folds, SB makes it 10, I call.

Flop:
A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

He bets 40, I push.

It obviously worked out this hand, but:

1. Do you like this line better than limp/push preflop?
2. Is it valid if the board is K-high?
3. Is it valid if the board is monotone/straightening?
4. What would you have done had button been in the hand as well (who you know will not call the push unless he has TPTK beat)?
5. Do I want to shut down an auto-raiser long-term?

1. I do like this better than limp reraise all in preflop.

2. Yes I think its valid. In fact I prefer K high board instead of ace high board.

3. If its monotone or very connected, it would depend on how many others were in the hand

4. if button is also in it, I might just call as if he won't call all in without having TPTK beat, he probably won't call a pot sized bet without having TPTK beat either

5. if you double up here, why worry about shutting down autoraiser?

My position W/R to the autoraiser and the big 'ol fishy i'm trying to bag...

prolly overthough that one though.

what kind of fish is the BB? is he a loose passive fish or a LAG fish?

you almost want to shut down the autoraiser as you don't want the fish to loose too many chips to the autoraiser.

Hey fim,

I'd play this the same way given your description/read.

1- yes
2- yes
3- yes
4- smoothcall?
5- a big no

PS. Any reason you dropped back down to the 100nl? Not that big a difference from the 200nl, except for table selection.

Re: Another way to play AK

so long as he's Loose/x it doesnt matter. I'm talking specifically about my position with respect to both of them and the (many) betting patterns that would allow me to easily stack BB should a player who will reliably autobet be active. Once again though, i think that consideration is overthought and not so important, however, i do think that one must be aware of how pulling an admittedly somewhat nasty move like this changes the table.

Hi fimbul,

when you say nasty move, do you refer more to the limp with AK or the flop all in with TPTK ?

I still play the 200 game, but my sessions often don't last long enough to get through the waiting list. most of the hands i have trouble with (and therefore post) are of the deep stacked variety and i'm rarely at a table long enough to encouter such a situation. i emailed party protesting their cutting of the 200 6max tables and found out it wa "due to player demand". It always pisses me off when more tables of a highly desirable game are running too.

in my experience, bad LAGs really hate getting lame-ducked and then repopped when they know they're pot-committed. sometimes it shuts them down, sometimes it makes them laggier, but it never makes them happy. There are times (especially live) when making a slightly less +EV decision in order to not do something that a table of recreational gamblers might consider mean is the way to go.

I would say it's even more valid if top card on the board is a K. Many will play A9 or A7, some will play K9, but not as many will play the K7. I like the play against a lunatic, but that's about it.
