How many BBs for a night of playing

I've gone from playing daily to just playing occasionally when I visit a city with a cardroom. I typically have a set sum (which varies) that I am willing to play with.

In order to pick the limit that I play how many BBs should I take to the table for a 4-5 session??

50 should be good. but 75 would probably be better so that if you have a negative run to begin with you don't start playing weak tight. you could get away with much less but for psychological reasons i think it is better to have more than enought to play with.

I sit down with 25 BB. If you run through that, you should think about your play before ponying up some more chips. Unless you are at my table, where rebuys are welcome.

I need to qualify this statement before people go crazy. I live close to a card room so if I drop 25 BB, I usually go home. It is either not my night, I am not playing well or I am outclassed. Either way it makes sense to stop bleeding chips unless you have a significant edge.

Now here is the qualification. If I travel far enough to stay overnight or like a weekend trip. I bring plenty of money because variance is a fickle Ho.

Last trip to Tunica, couldn't buy a pot. I was down like $400 playing $3-6. Late Saturday night, I get the player's share of two bad beat Jackpots and Sunday morning early, variance decides to show me some love and I win about $250 in two hours. Finished the weekend up almost $11.

So I guess my answer is, it depends. Are you close to home and how much can you stand to lose?

When I play 3/6 I buy in for $300. I always have an additional $1000 minimum in my pocket when I go into a poker room. Would never get deep into that but having it makes me feel comforatble playing hands I should play.

damn, that's a lot of loot to take to play 3/6

i think 25-30bb is good for any game you play, for a night of playing as the question was posed - screw the 'reload' money...if you lose 25-30bb during the time you're there, ANY game you play....time to go home, or play slots

WOW, $300 buy-in for a 3/6! I buy for $100 almost always and that is usually enough; having said that I have also bought in for $200 when the game is crazy and swings are big.

Over the course of three consecutive pots of lost more than 25BB's. That would make for a short night, no?

i agree with MGinNJ, i always have at least a 100, and try to have more on the old atm, just in case.

Nope, not a typo. Variance had me by the throat all weekend but she relaxed her grip early Sunday morning.
