How many big bets to buy into limit ring games?

Party/Empire automatically suggests 25 bb buy in for ring games. Is that normal? Not enough? I don't think it's too much . . .

It's fine, rebuy once you get to around 15BB.

I always buy in for roughly 15 bb. Roughly is the keyword here: I don't buy-in for exactly 30 dollars for a 1/2-game - I buy in for $31.17 (or something like that). For a 2/4-game I'd buy in for something like $64.57.

I don't know why I do this, it's just one of those stupid things that has no significance whatsoever.

To me, the 30-big bet rule (which I follow religiously) is way more important than if I make a 15, 20, or 25 big bet buy-in.

Edit:
In case you didn't know already, the 30-big bet rule is just a simple stop-loss concept popularized by Annie Duke. If you drop more than 30 big bets you end the session cause chances are you are not playing your best, or if you do, you are still a weaker player than the others at the table. It's a good way to keep me off tilt.

In Annie's case, I doubt if it's cause she's the weak player at the table, though (grin).

I agree it's a great rule, though.

my undertanding is, you probably want a buy-in of 25-3 BB. For some reason, I usually buy-in for 20 BB, and that works for me, but you probably couldn't go wrong with a 25-30 BB buy in.

if i plan on staying for a while i like to buy in for 30-50bb mainly because i dont' want to hastle the chip runners into giving me another rack later on if i get low in chips.

it never hurts to have too much chips in front of you, but it will from time to time cost you if you don't have enough, so i play it safe. and having huge chip towers in front of you is cool!

I used to buy in for 30, but found myself getting anxious if I dip down below 20 on any given table.

Now I buy in for 50, and that seems to help.

I use the default 25BB for online play. I do this because I get exceedingly pissed when someone snatches my seat at a juicy table by literally seconds. Not typing in anything saves me just a bit of time. I always maintain 12+BB at the table so i neve lose anything due to going to the felt.

I always buy in for 100 BB online. Of course, I only 3-table, so the majority of my roll is usually at the tables. I'm using John Vorhaus' advice in Killer Poker Online, that being the biggest stack at the table could give you a psychological edge over players, especially new ones.

I've yet to see evidence of this, however.
