Bargain chip set

What's the best way to get a chip set on the cheap? Ebay? By signing up with a poker site? Is there like an internet wholesaler or something? I'm just looking for chips and case, no table or anything like that. Thanks a lot for your help.

I think your best bet is eBay, but your best price with lots of pictures and no worries is http://www.5stardeal.com/. If you want high quality chips, then there are different palces to go. For cheap? Try those two.

You can get cheap sets for free. Some of the affiliate deals advertised on this very site offer 500 pc. cheapo sets for free. I recieved an upgraded set (better case, extra stuff), because the affiliate was very slow in processing my order.

I think that's the way to go for cheap sets like dice & suited styles (suited is usually better). You can't get more cheap than free. Heck, you would even have to pay more for the little plastic chips at Wal-Mart.

Costco, green box ("deluxe set), 500 chips = mui perfecto

...I did some sleuthing (the other) day at Costco in San Francisco in lieu of buying a new set. There were two different sets for sale--one was on display and one was in a yellow box. Both had 500 chips, but neither is the same as the set that can be found online 650/$99.

So here's the scoop: After breaking into the display model ("The Deluxe ???" set in the greenbox), I played w/ the chips and they are great! They don't slip and slide like most of chips I've looked at, so they stack very well. They also feel great and sound good--my 3 most important criteria. I did notice the problem others have mentioned--that the white/blue chips look similar. A new shipment of 40 are arriving tomorrow. I'm buying b/c they wouldn't sell me the display model (plexiglass was bolted onto the open case). There was no dealer button, only cards and dice.

The chips in the yellow box sucked. After tearing thru the cellophane, opening the box, the styrofoam, and more cellophane I could feel the outside of the chips...too slick!

I second the motion on 5stardeal.com. I've ordered various things including chip sets from them and always have them in a timely manner and the chips are great!
