Best way to convert a dining table to poker table?

Anyone out there lay felt on their dining table to get a better homegame experience? Any pointers? Any other homegame suggestions for keeping the guests happy?

My buddy designed and built an insanely cool casino table top, but I don't have the skills.

the ghetto way to do it (which ive done) is to go to the fabric store, buy some felt or brushed denim and viola! instant poker top (and on the cheap).

I just posted this in another thread, but you can also go this route. I'll be using mine for the first time tonight and I'll let you know how it works out.

Table padding, used billiard felt, and tape.

I played at someone's house who had one of those on his oval kitchen table. I thought it was pretty good. It had felt and some foam and it was secured by a drawstring. I think it is a good cheap alternative to buying/building a table or table top.

go to the fabric store. buy a piece of green velveteen. should be about $15 people can spill beer on it all they want. If you want to get really fancy buy some potato chip clips and attach it to the table somehow so it will not slip.

One of the games I play in -- Regular size rectangle table. He bought one of those $350 Holdem tables that normally comes with folding legs. he special ordered it w/o the legs and it fits perfectly. When we're done he stores it under a bed.

The smartalec in me wants to say: put some cards and chips on it, maybe a cigar or a glass of whiskey....

... but

I use those $70 folding table tops (the oval kind) and they work just fine. They're a good stop gap until I can build my own table.
