66 played ineptly

Another leak I have is playing small pocket pairs. If I hit the set, we're fine, but I don't have the judgement yet to know when to stay in and when to get out. Here's an example that I know I botched. SB is in PT as a sLP-A:

PokerStars 1/2 10 handed

Hero is MP3 with 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Preflop: 5 folds, MP2 calls, Hero calls, 1 fold, SB completes, BB checks

Flop: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
SB checks, BB checks, MP2 checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB folds, MP2 calls

Turn: K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
SB bets, MP2 folds, Hero calls

River: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
SB bets, Hero calls

The turn bet confused me, as I thought a player who would call with overs and catch on the turn would try a check-raise. So, I called down, which in retrospect seemed extremely weak. What say you?

Calling it down is weak, raise or fold. Either way, I think you're beat and I'd be folding this hand.

Why would SB go for a checkraise if he had something like K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]? If I were SB with that hand, I would fire away on the turn. SB might be bluffing at this card, but I feel like it is a pretty easy turn laydown.

A few thoughts on this hand:

1) I would raise this preflop - you have a chance to knock out the blinds and get MP2 heads up - take it.

2) Anyone check this flop? Had I raised PF, I would have no problem with betting here, but it seems that at least 2 of these guys are going to come along for one small bet, and any overcard is going to force Hero to slow down. I'd see the turn for free, and if it brings another low card, take a stab at it.

3) I think folding is better than calling down here - unless you have a read on SB as a very aggressive post-flop player. The fact that he comes alive on the turn indicates, to me at least, that he either flopped a set or has a K - why call down?
