North Florida Poker

Im a student in Gainesville Fl, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there were any good places to play poker nearbye. I know theres a dog track in Jacksonville and some boats, but I was wondering if there was anywhere closer. Information about the quality of poker, the buy ins, the games played, the skill level, and if the age was 18 or 21 would also be helpful. (I know the ages for the boats vary)

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hard Rock Casino in Tampa would be only other but probably not any closer for you. Much nicer than the dog tracks I have played at. have 1/2 and 2/2 holdem and lots of tournaments. typical no foldem holdem you find in low priced tables but pots therefore get $30 or more pretty often so can be profitable if you play real tight and wait for real good cards. I did good there in a 10 hour session last month.

All I know of is a pretty darn good home game in ATL. Can't help you out in Florida.

Gainesville's a college town, there has to be a hundred home games going on across campus. Ask around, talk to your friends and see what's up. That's probably your best bet for higher stakes and no age restrictions.

Home Games

Yeah, I know about alot of home games but I would like to find a place with consistant game. Ive run into a couple of problems with home games.

First off, there is no consistancy with home games. Weekly games start out weekly but usually fade out. A couple weeks get cancelled because people have tests, then people find other things to do and forget about poker night and pretty soon poker nights gone.

OR its a room full of Dbags who think that they are poker gods. These guys are no fun to play with. They freak out if someone splashes the pot or plays out of turn(not a cheater just a total rookie). They get pissed if someone doesnt play how they expected them to play(Lucks into a 2pair by playing 36 because its suited).

They always end up either driving off the bad players or teaching them to play better.

I was at one of these games and one of these guys made fun of someone for not raising when it was checked to him on the button. Great strategy man, teach bad players that they should bluff more often. I wouldnt want them to be too easiy to read.

These games just turn into 6 hours of silence. they arent much fun but they usually last the whole year (or until Halo2 comes out)

There are 2 big games Ive heard of (100 buy in and 500 buy in) but I dont want to risk that much: Im not that great of a player and I dont know about the security at those games(if I win will I get my money AND make it to my car, Will I be able to cash out anytime I want Etc)

When is the action best at the Hard Rock. Would it be worth a weekend trip with friends?

Re: HardRock

I was down in Tampa on business last year when the Hard Rock first opened. The rooms are fairly expensive but well worth it. They are all very nice. There's also some cheaper hotels in the area. The age is 18, I had some very young looking people at my table so I asked someone about it and they said it was 18.

Re: Home Games

room rates are $140 per night for the lower price rooms. Was quoted $205 for suite. Nicest rooms I have ever been in though. Better than mgm, caesor, hilton or luxor that i have been in in vegas. I was there mid week. Was told wait on a seat at poker table can be over 1 hour on weekends. have 32 tables. nice big room. comfortable chairs.

I want to confirm this. The rooms were much nicer than most of the rooms I've been in in Las Vegas, AC, or Mississippi. The poker room wait can be an hour or longer during the weekend.
