Need info on Chicago are card rooms please

Hi all.
I'll be visiting a friend in Chicago this weekend. He's got a conference he needs to attend on Saturday, so I'll have all day free and thought I might check out one of the poker rooms in the area. He lives up in Lincoln Park, and I'm flying in so I'll be without a car.

1) Where are the poker rooms/casinos in the Chicago area?
2) How close (miles and or drive time) are they to Lincoln Park?
3) Is taking a cab to the casino a feasible plan? How about the El?

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet are the casinos in Indiana. Specifically, Harrah's in East Chicago and Trump in Gary. A cab would cost much too much. Harrah's has information about it's bus on its' web site. They have one which goes from the Hilton on Michigan and 8th (near Harrison red line el stop) and one from chinatown (cermak/chinatown red line el stop)(there are other locations that the bus leaves from as well). The Harrah's bus costs about $11 or so and they give you all but one dollar back when you get there. Trump has a bus which leaves from chinatown (cermak/chinatown red line stop). It leaves starting 10:20 a.m. or so and every even hour there after and returns on the odd hours. That bus costs $ 2.00. Majestic star has a bus which runs all day and night and takes you to the dock where the Trump is as well. That bus leaves at about 20 minutes past the odd hour and returns on the even hour and is free. Trump phone number 888-21-trump. If you were to drive it would take you about 50 minutes or so with no traffic.

You may want to run a search of this forum for really detailed info. Trump spreads games starting at 3-6 with a full kill. Harrah's starts at 5-10 on the weekends, I'm not sure about a kill in that game though. You can call an hour ahead to get on the list at Trump, if you do this you need to check in once you arrive.

Also, if you go to trump you should probably take some purell. Their chips are filthy (my gf thought they were magnetic when we were there last month).

Having played the majority of my live poker at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, I always get a chuckle out of what people consider to be "filthy" poker chips. I didn't think the chips at Trump were bad at all. At least you could see the designs on them...

I play at Trump, and find there chips dirty...untill I played at Sam's Town in Tunica this past weekend..they were the sickest chips ever. I am not making this up - I was able to write things in the dirty grim on the chips. It was like the side of a city bus that hadnt been cleaned in a year, you know when you see someone write "wash me" on the side of a car. This was true for almost all the chips in the poker room...but not the chips down in the casino.

These dirty chips are more than just disgusting. Awhile back, playing 10/20 HE at Trump Gary, I called a bet by tossing in two red checks. The dealer yelled raise. I realized that a stack of 3 checks were stuck together. Someone had spilled soda on them, which acted as a glue. After a heated arguement, the floor ruled in my favor when he couldn't pry the checks apart with his fingernail. I hear the checks have been cleaned up a little. Caveat emptor, Always call out your action.
