Despite the fact I have actually responded to a couple of these posts -------- I second the motion.

Unlike political posts in the Other Topics forum, the religous posts in this forum will die down.

David, thanks for nothing.

I much prefer the Psychology forum. It was always the first one that I reviewed. I am not coming back until all this religion BS blows over. David, thanks for nothing.

I agree. This religion stuff is futile and boring.

Arguing with someone over religion is pointless, because it inflames passions and separates people. It always increases the negativity in the room. It inevitably makes people think less of others no matter how they try to assert the contrary because a religion functions much like a club in its inherently including the "best" people and excluding a necessarily lesser and inferior "others" who don't know the real "truth".

Finally, it is not amenable to reason, but based on faith, and you can't logically persuade anyone to drop or change matters of faith. Religion is by and large the sphere of faith and prejudice, not productive argumentation. You can argue philosophy productively, but not religion. That's what can make philisophical discussions interesting, but makes religious ones deadly dull, doing little more than making people square off against each other and pick new enemies or "outsiders" to think less of.

Having been part of more than a few ecumenical academic conferences, I whole heartedly disagree with this assertion.

I have seen significant productive religious debate, on very central issues, on numerous occassions.

Don't you think Mirriam Webster would have some redefinition work to do if you divorce religion from psychology?

Theology (or theological philosophy depending on whether you like defining things) can be quite productive and, possibly more importantly, entertaining.

But yeah, a 'philosophy' forum mightn't be a terrible idea under 'other topics'. All this religion stuff (with some limited exceptions that did actually belong here) is only tenuously related to gambling.
