This is a situation that comes up a lot. You don't think the other guy has very much and you're pretty damn sure you're good. How much do you bet here?

As for the flop, I bet that here most of the time. Sometimes I throw a curveball and check.

Diablo-

I think there are two roughly equal ideas here, and in analogous situations.

1. Make the standard value bet of $80 or $100. He called the turn, so that often means that he's planning to call a similarly proportioned bet on the river (unless he's drawing, of course).

2. Make it look like you have AK and are trying to buy it and bet $175 or $200. This would be better if you have an aggressive image or if he is the type to play sheriff. The running 4s set this up- if he thought he was good on the turn there is seemingly no way the river could have helped you.

This particular instance seems like a good time for line #2, IMO.

I'd probably bet about $140 and hope he's got something like QJ or TT and not a draw. Your flop check showed weakness, and of course the fours wouldn't scare him, so a strong river bet would look like you're trying to buy the pot.

Re: 5-10 NL trips

Why bet this flop most of the time? You have nothing except runner runner draws and an overcard, and the board is pretty coordinated. Against most people I would bet this flop about 1/3 the time. I forget who said it (I know it inclued Matt Flynn), a lot of people a while ago talked against auto betting the flop after raising preflop which I have since stopped doing and it has worked well for me... This seems like one of those auto bet situations which is bad.

The river, as with everything I guess it depends a lot on the player. Some people will call the BB with crap like Q7s or whatever whereas others need a hand. If it's the sort of person that might have a raggedy queen (or any queen for that matter) I'd bet a little less than the pot. Against someone else who might just have a pocket pair or smaller piece of the board or might even bluff cr here maybe $60 or $70. Not sure if that helps, if you knew what he had you wouldn't ask what to bet. I'd lean towards the smaller bet though.

I bet between 100-200 and hope he thinks you have AK. No way he puts you on a 4 here. He might even call you with a 9. If I've seen him call w/ top pair bad kicker, I make a larger bet than average - if normal player, you may want to bet in the lower range.

between 50 and 100. I think figuring out how much they'll call in spots like this can really add up.

I will often over-bet the river here, somewhere around 200-250.

though he will probably want to, i cant see him calling the river overbet without a Q, and i really doubt he has one. plus el diablo probably has a pretty decent image if hes been sitting enough to get up to 1900. id much rather overbet in other, yet similar, situations. if i were villian, i just couldnt justify why eldiablo would bet the turn then overbet the river on a hand a 9 or a 5 could beat. id like it alot more if a busted draw was out there, a scare card fell on the river, ect ect
