Statking?
 

Hi. Would like a description and/or review of Statking. I have PokerTracker but am contemplating getting statking, from what I understand they have different functions and statking is better for all-around record keeping.

Is there a statking website, or demo I can download?

I use PokerTracker and StatKing, and wrote a small Perl script to convert PT exported sessions so they can be imported. I posted it in this forum a while back, if anyone needs it.

Soon there will be no reason to use Statking if you are a Poker Tracker user, they are begining to incorporate similar features now. Expect charts in Rev 3, but you can easily make your own charts if you have a basic knowlege of Access Databases.

I used StatKing when I first started playing, and later bought PT. I used both for a while, but StatKing seemed so limited compared to PT that I just stopped using SK (I realize they do completely different things). I have a thought that I will someday enter all my sessions from PT into SK, but that task seems very daunting now.

From the post above, if you have a script to import the sessions data from PT to SK that would be unbelievable! Please post again...

Anyway, StatKing pros:
1) Statistical analysis of your bankroll use and requirements after much data
2) Analysis of relative success at various poker games and sites (e.g. c.v. analysis [earn/standard deviation] that determines which sites/games you "really" do best at.

Weaknessess:
1) Does nothing to actually improve your poker play

So they really do two different things:
1) Manage/analyze your bankroll and game selection (SK)
2) Analyze your actual poker play (and opponents) (PT)

PT is by far the better product IMHO if you were to get only one.

You still need a tool like StatKing if you play more than just Hold'em or you play at sites that Poker Tracker doesn't support.

When are the new charts etc. for Pokertracker coming out? Any idea?

StatKing and PokerTracker are different tools with some superficial overlap.

StatKing is a database front end that allows you to keep a record of your results. You could use an Excel spreadsheet or knock something up with Access but StatKing is nice to use and you don’t need to set things up yourself. You can export or import data to/from other record keeping tools if you wish.

PokerTracker is a tool for parsing hand histories and storing the information. It then gives you a convenient interface for viewing the resulting stored information. I find the session notes useful for ensuring the data I enter into Statking is as accurate as possible.
