NL VS. LIMIT IN PROFIT
 

Hey I've made alot of money playing nl however I've noticed that on a large scale nl has a huge variance where the best play doesn't always make good on your bankroll since you can lose it all in one hand. However in limit the best play even if it doesn't hold'em won't cost you that much. My question merely is for someone looking to make the most money with the least risk doesn't limit seem like the better option since nl has a great deal of risk involved in every decision you make.

The way I see it, NL is a higher risk for higher rewards, and if played well and right, you can limit your risks to something acceptable. [img]/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]

I see lower variance with NL - MUCH lower variance personally.

Also, a much more profitable game..

You need to also look at your tolerance levels if you're going to be playing for more than a few hours a day. I've played so many hands of limit I can play in my sleep practically. 4-handed, bbq'ing, and having an intelligent discussion with the wife (she thinks I'm paying attention to her but I only give her about 10% of my bandwidth). Of course I'm wireless to enable this capability.

With NL you have to pay a litte more attention, where as in limit it's much easier to may decisions by quick, rote-reflexes... and when you get good enough you will even vary your play while making the same quick decisions.

NL is more fun, but you'll make fewer mistakes in limit if you play a lot of hours (and the mistakes you do make won't cost you as much).

Exactly the way I see it. I also think in NL good players have many more tools to take the stacks of bad players.

I am only worried about limit holdem fluctuations; they can be long time lows. Big bet poker does not worry me one bit.

the boring part is what makes limit so profitable. the fish get bored and play too many hands. nl is intimidating to alot of fish so they start out at limit usually. that is why .50/1-2/4 is so profitable. i find nl ring games very boring personally. its easy to make money at the low limits and may be as profitable a regular ring but i think new players learn MUCH more starting out on limit ring games. just sitting there waiting for a group one hand is easy and boring. to each his own though. when i first started i couldnt wait to get a little bankroll together so i could play NL. it gets old just like the rest. nowdays i mix it up with limit,nl during the week after work(mostly limit) and tourneys,sngs, and a little limit on the weekends.

the better players at NL can reduce the risk and increase the EV by a lot when compared to limit, however casino's do not or run very few NL tables compared to limit because a) it takes more time, and more importantly b) the good players really drain the fishes bankrolls a lot faster, thus less customers for the casino.

so to summarize, for the good players NL would definately be the choice for profit/loss, and for the losing players -> limit would be a lot better choice to keep a tighter hold on your money ; )
