Hi Everyone:

I've just returned from Wynn and spent some time in their poker room even though I didn't play. But I did talk to their manager Deborah Giardina and some others who I knew, as well as a few players.

The room is beautiful and my initial impression is very positive. I plan to be back there this weekend (if I find the time) to play a little.

What limits were they spreading? What was the highest limit?

Maybe I am just blind, but I couldn't find a listing of how many tables they have there. Could you give us an idea?

I've seen it listed as 27, I'll know for sure tomorrow.

I think it's 28 tables. As for limits, the room had just opened and games were just starting, but they told me they want all games, all limits. This weekend will know better as to what games and limits they'll get. Perhaps I'll see you there.

Given the style of the establishment, I would assume that there will not be very low limits spread, and there will be some high limit tables. However, I would also assume that it will be dependent on what people sign up for. They can't spread something if they don't have a table of players for it. These are just my guesses.

Thanks, I look forward to playing there, though probably not until late June. Hopefully they have some high action 15-30 and/or 20-40 games.

On a semi-related subject, what do you think about the new highlimit room at the Bellagio and the possibility of one being set up at Wynn? I'm sure the players in that game would love the privacy, but what about the exposure to the card room and casino in having those players playing in such a big game out in the open....sounds -EV from the casino's standpoint.

Just got back myself - trip report, day 1 at the wynn
 

Yep. Great room. I have little bad to say about it, and lots of good to say. Here's my trip report from day 1:

Went to the opening day of wynn today, headed up there about 630am this morning. Got there and bullchitted with Andy for a while, then got into a 2-5 no limit game. Played for perhaps 1.5 hours or so, finishing up about $180 or so. Then those particular players started arguing too much, you know the kind of stuff, you're breathing my AIR, no you're breathing MY air, etc etc ad nauseum. Time to GO Al!!! Walked around and bullchitted with Linda (graveyard floor) for a while, checked out the place. It's fan-friggin'-tastic! Kinda like the bellagio with different color schemes, but better. Friggin' HUGE too.

The poker room is actually small and kinda cramped, I think it's more like a 20 table space with 27 tables packed in. However, the service was good and the games were GREAT. Slackers galore. I had expected mostly sharks, but that wasn't the case.

After I got back from walking around, I got into a 1-2 no limit game. Started with $100, got be-ach-ed when my two pair ran into two bigger pair, friggin' rivers! Lost about $70 there. Bought another $100. Then wound up blowing off about another $50 on various small missed-the-flop type hands. Wound up buying in for ANOTHER $200 (there is NO limit on the buy-ins), in for $400 altogether. Won a decent but not huge pot with pocket KK, and another decent on with AQ, ace on flop. Had the distinct pleasure of meeting John "the italian stallion" (whoever that is, but apparently he's well-known, lol, just ask him!). He laid down his KK when my AQ flopped the ace. I had called his preflop raise, and so did like five others, about $72 in the pot. I bet $50 from the small blind. He had a very large stack and watched me intently, threatening to go all-in with his body language, hoping for a read from me. Had he done so, I would have folded. I gave him no read. Finally he folded, wisely, saying he had KK. Very boisterous individual, fun guy to meet. Seemed to play pretty well, but never stopped talking. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Finally, the hand of the day. I had black AA and made it $12 UTG. One caller, very LAG dealer with GIGANTIC stack to my right makes it $100 from the small blind. He was very much a muscler with his large stack, but having him on my right was quite perfect. I then proceeded to go all-in over the top for $288 more. He called, the other guy hemmed and hawwed but folded (I wanted him to call too!).

Anyway LAG has QQ and my aces stand up, despite the four heart board (thank the poker gods he didn't have the Qh). Left that table up about $400 profit. Very nice day indeed.

Wynn is going to blow everyone else away, what a great room and a great casino. Unfortunately, I can see long lines ala bellagio in the poker room in the near future as well. That might keep the relatively low rollers such as myself and many of us 2+2ers busy playing at other venues, such as MGM. There were like eight games or so when I arrived, and about 15 when I left today at 130pm. The casino was very quickly getting VERY packed. Good time to skate!

Contrary to legend, there is absolutely NO electronic player tracking systems on the tables, you clock in your card with the floor and clock out at the back counter, and they do all the lists by hand except for the primary comptuer board list, which is similar to the electronic board at MGM. For that matter, there aren't even drink holders or a wood or marble strip around the outsides of the tables. And they ARE all stud tables! Parking was easy, but then I got there very early!

Overall, my first impression of wynn was that it's a class-act kind of place. Bravo!

My experience is that the real high limit players want to be seen, so as to stroke their very large egos, but be slightly out of the actual REACH of the general public (i.e. the blue-collar slobs). [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
