Is getting quartered just a fact of life?

I got quartered several times last night, but can't see how I should have played any of them differently. It's hard to fold the nut low, for example, without knowing what your opponent has.

So is getting quartered just that common or should I be looking for more places to fold nut lows?

There are two instances when I might fold the nut low ....

1. When a small pot is a bet and raise to me.
2. When I have a strong read that says that someone has another A2

Besides that, I rarley if ever fold a nut low. Even if you are quartered, you wont be losing tons of money in LO8 if there are a good # of players in the pot, which there usually are.

Id love to hear someone argue otherwise, though.

It should be easier to fold it then for the PLO8 reason

In pot-limit it still should not be folded very often ... but since its a game or 3/4, if your going to be continue on you need some shot at high. You cant get away with splitting pots alot in PLO8 like you can in LO8. Its always about scooping.

Is it possible that you are playing too many low-only hands? If you get 1/4 too much, its possible that it is just because the other guys are playing better scooping hands. Look at your hand selection and make sure that your low hands are either really powerful low hands played in large multiway pots, or that they are hands with high and low features.

If you've got a nut low/nut low draw that is counterfeitable and there is aggressive action before you in a small pot, give it up.

Last night I 3/4th my opponent in two different pots with the nut low, for my entire stack in $1/$2 PLO Hi/Lo on Stars. The first time we both had a pair of Aces, my kicker was higher. The 2nd one my opponent had A/2/2/x and I had a King in my hand and one on the board for a higher pair.

That was a good evening for me. But, it could have just as easily gone the other way for my entire stack.

Getting quartered is not that uncommon and is a standard part of O8. Without better reads you cannot do much to avoid it online.
