Villain's flop bet seemed a little weak, I was pretty sure I ruled out AA-KK here, probably AJ. I thought he might have 88/TT. I felt pushing the turn might make it look less like a draw, didn't really want a call but wouldn't stab myself over it either.

Better to check-raise the flop, appearances of a draw be damned. It gives you the outs if you are called. He doesn't have to have anything here-- I see the Standard Continuation Bet on Stars all the time.
I like your thinking, but it still probably doesn't give you the best chance to win. I don't know.
