Interesting hand quiz

Stolen from www.tillerman.net :

Poker Question
This hand happened at 25/50 (NL $5000). My friend and I were discussing the hand, (he was in the hand not me).

Two players limp in middle position for $50, my friend calls on the button with K8cc.

His two opponents are both good/solid players.

The flop comes Qc7d4c.

There is $225 in the pot.

The first player bets out $220 UTG and the second player calls the $220. Fold isn't an option, so you just have to decide to call or raise?

My friend called. All players had around $5000 in their stack at the start of the hand.

The pot is now $885.

The turn comes the 2c giving my friend the second nut flush.

His first opponent now bet $885, a full pot sized bet. His second opponent called this $885 bet and it was now up to my friend to act.

There is $2665 in the pot now. You have $4730 left. Do you call, raise or fold?

Now 3 scenarios :-

1. You call, the river comes a blank giving you still the 2nd nuts. There is $3540 in the pot. The first opponent pushes all in for around the size of the pot and the second opponent also calls. Do you call or fold?

2. Same as the first scenario except the first opponent checks the river and the second opponent pushes all in for around the size of the pot. Do you call or fold?

3. You call, the river comes the Qd pairing up the board. The first player checks and the second player bets $1600 (slightly less than half the pot). Do you call, fold or push all in?

That is five different questions. Look for the question marks! I'll tell you my friends actions and the results of the hand after enough people have commented. I will also give my own thoughts too. Analysis/Reasoning along with the answers in your comments please.

Answer the five questions you lazy bastards.

Re: Interesting hand quiz

1.) Flop raise depends on my opponents, calling is fine in positions

2.) I raise here, the pot is big, we have the second nuts, and dont want to let the naked Ac redraw or give a set a chance to fill. Both these hands are very plausible given the action so far. I make 2800.

3.) I call

4.) I call

5.) I call

All,

FWIW, I'm pretty sure first guy in hand (who bets river) is strassa and second guy in hand (who calls river) is me.

Re: Interesting hand quiz

All,

FYI, the actual action was slightly different:

MP limper. K8c calls on button, SB (strassa) calls, BB (me) calls.

Strassa pots $200 on flop, call, call.

Strassa pots $800 on turn, call, call.

Re: Interesting hand quiz

Hi Yeti,

Not knowing the opponents, and assuming this hand was on UB,

1)Call (most everywhere else I raise, but I see too little fold equity from pushing here in this weird game).
2)Raise always. The amount is usually 2400 more.

After calling:

1)Call getting 3 to 1 and not loving it.
2)Call
3)Call, and I don't think it's close (with the nut flush it would be a close push).

Re: Interesting hand quiz(change scenario....thoughts please)

TY for posting this.

I would like to know if you were player one and had Ax of clubs
if you would ever check this river?

I do about 30-60% of time with this action and players described

Re: Interesting hand quiz(change scenario....thoughts please)

By far the most interesting of these is the third scenario, where villian 1 pushes and villian 2 calls. Hero is getting 3:1 on his money, so the question is, is he good here more than 25% of the time? Do most people play the nut flush draw the way villian 1 did, leading out with it and again potting on turn when he hits it? I don't think there is a chance he is bluffing, but I do think there is a good chance he could have 7xcc, x not being an ace.

Another thing to consider is the fact that both villians were in the blinds, meaning it probably makes it less likely that they had Axc as opposed to a limper. If villian 2 had something like 86cc, would he not play it like this? I think 3:1 is too good of a price, you'd have to call especially given how weak hero played the turn by not raising.

As far as the other streets...I'd call flop, raise turn (3/4 pot), and call in the other two scenarios.

Re: Interesting hand quiz

FYI, he posted "the answers". What do people think of what he says? And what about his friend folding 2nd nut flush on the river?

2. Same as the first scenario except the first opponent checks the river and the second opponent pushes all in for around the size of the pot. Do you call or fold?

This is the nut flush VERY often given the player descriptions.

12-28-2005 01:36 AM

Re: Interesting hand quiz

1. Very Easy Fold

2. Close decision and I probably call.

3. I fold

KaneKungFu123 12-28-2005 01:47 AM

Re: Interesting hand quiz

without specific player descriptions, id call everywhere, but the second hand is a very standard line for several, several players with the nut flush.

Re: Interesting hand quiz

I am very surprised that ppl are more hesitant to fold in river scenario 2. I'm more worried about the second guy than the first.

12-28-2005 01:04 PM

Re: Interesting hand quiz

Yes I am more worried about the 2nd guy as well, however, you now only have to face 1 all in as opposed to 2 all ins.

2 people all in with this board is an obvious fold IMO.

1 all in I could see a call thinking he had a lower flush.

The reason is because on the turn I would have thought he would have raised because the bet really wasn't that big and he should be fearful that either player 1 or you have a set. By not raising he is giving you pretty good odds to fill up on river.

2 people all in I fold.

Check, then all in, I probably call. Obviously in this hand I would have lost.

Re: Interesting hand quiz

Hey D, in the hand, if the turn bricked and Strassa potted it to $800, were you raising?
