30 Day Small Stakes Challenge- COMPLETED!!!!!!!!!!!

I have finished 30 days of small stakes NL hold'em. My goal was to make $3,000 in 30 days at small stakes NL tables. Due to taking 9 of the 30 days off, I did not reach my goal. I did not expect to take 1/3rd of the whole challenge off when I started, but that's what happened. Anyways, I think doing this was beneficial for me to really look into my stats and realize that I should put some goals in front of me and quit playing such low stakes. I stopped early today basically because I am so tired of messing around at the low stakes, and was throwing money away because it's not competitive. I think I made more money than I would have made over the last 30 days if I did not do this challenge, because I would not have forced myself to play sometimes, and actually been shooting for something. Here are the stats:

(each stage is 3 days long)

.25/.50 NL
Stage 1- +$320.10
Stage 2- +$237.45
Stage 3- +$136.05
Stage 4- +$0.90
Stage 5- +$130.30

First half (.25/.50)- +$824.80/ 9,674 hands/ 35.5 hours
17.05 BB/ 100 hands
$23.23/ hour

.50/1 NL
Stage 6- +$786.90
Stage 7- +$312.10
Stage 8- DNP
Stage 9- DNP
Stage 10- +$133.70

Second half (.50/1)- + $1,232.70/ 8,407 hands/ 28 hours
14.66 BB/ 100 hands
$44.03/ hour

Overall- + $2,057.50 in 21 playing days. $97.98 per playing day. I did not include the Pokerstars bonus that I received which was $120 and would put me up to $2,177.50 for the last month.

I know this is a small sample size, but my numbers tell me I should be playing a lot higher as well as my boredom is telling me. Would you agree?

You are the best person to decide if you are ready to move up are not. It is all about whether you know why you are crushing the games and why your opponents aren't.

Michael,

When I sit down at the games it's not even a competition. I'm just curious as to what numbers other people would be like, "okay, these numbers say I am destroying the games." I feel like I destroy the games, and have been so bored that I think I have thrown quite a bit of money away to try and bluff people out of pots where at a competitive table I would not be doing things like this. Obviously when I move up to 1/2 I will want to make over $50 an hour since I am making over $40 per hour at the .50/1 tables. Just curious by the numbers how others make the decision. Even if I only won 8 BB's per 100 hands I would be increasing my win rate, so it seems I should be able to do that unless there is a ton of talent at 1/2.

I have no idea how other people make decisions, but I suspect many of them have other options for rebuilding bankrolls and live too conservatively. Take some percentage of your roll and give it a try. If it doesn't work, drop back down and start again.

$1/$2 NL is going well. Not that much difference.

Congratulations on, well, on playing in December. Your numbers are good, and your confidence is also good since you feel it "is not even a competition" at the limits you were playing. I suspect that you will find the $1/$2 a bit tougher. Let us know where you are in 25K hands and whether you have managed to make that $50/hour. Good luck.

This is weird...

This challenge was from a few months ago. I saw it bumped up this morning somehow without anyone having bumped it up. This is an old challenge. Have no idea how it got bumped. This isn't the December challenge.

This is still a GREAT win rate for .25/.50 and .50/1.00 tables. Where did you play? Time of day? Surely this isn't typical for most people. I know it's not typical for me!

Great job.

Congratulations on doing so well on this monthly challenge snowbank.

Having said this, I think your sample size is too small to make any final judgements.

There was a post a while back (I can't find it of course) where a full time 15/30 Party player posted almost all of his poker tracker stats for 2 consecutive months. The first month he posted a 250 BB win. The following month he posted a -150 BB loss.

The stats for both months were almost exactly identical. I was very greatful for that post because it truly indicated how solid similar play could have major variance shifts even though the stats were almost identical.

It also made me realize that for a contending player to seriously tackle online play in the long run and post a decent win rate would probably require more than 300 BB.
