$60k in 60 Days - Days 1 and 2

For some reason, I put this challenge high on my list of things to attempt to do in my poker career. Although it seems the time is never right to try it, I've come to the conclusion that it will never be right and that I just need to man up and do it. I have no intentions of trying to kill myself trying to do this (a la "The Cruise Challenge"), but I will be trying to play as much as is possible, within reason.

The end of this challenge will coincide with the beginning of March, which works out good. March/April are going to be my super vacation months, between the Party Poker Million V Cruise for a week and spending a month in Cancun right after that. So, earning a ton of money right before that seems like a good idea.

The basic challenge, as many of you know, is to earn $60k in 60 days by playing 10/20 6max (playing another limit is cheating and not a true 60k in 60 days challenge, IMO). Rakeback is not included in the figure, though I will give a rakeback total at the end of this (and of course, I reserve the right to cheat and add it in later if I wish). Updates will come every 3-4 days to once a week to reduce clutter. If this doesn't belong here, BBV or The Zoo may be more appopriate.... feel free to move it.

Also, whether or not you agree with it (it's my challenge after all), I will be allowing myself some "free" days which will not be counted in this little exercise. I won't be taking these just because I want to relax for a day, but I think you'll agree they are warranted. Some examples include: A cruise I am taking to the Mexican Riviera in the beginning of Jan for 8 days (that was previously planned), a 3-4 day break to move to a different state, and possibly me having to entertain family coming to visit at my new place. Other than that, every day will count. Oh, days will start at 4 AM PST, as per what I felt like starting them at.

I will also be having a mini-workout challenge that will start with the 3rd day of this thing. 45 minutes of cardio per day. If I meet this challenge, I'll be happier than with the $60k.

During the challenge, my plan is to play 6 hours a day of a varying number of tables. Sometimes it will just be 4, sometimes 8, sometimes somewhere in between. The basic rule guiding the number of tables I play is that I want them all to be "good" tables... what I'll define as a table VPIP of at least 35. I may take less, but only if there is some good reason to do so. Otherwise, table selection will be key and I won't be forcing a ton of hands down my throat if the tables aren't good. In fact, I intend to never play at a bad table. Of course, one or two 45 VPIP players is enough to make a table good for me.

Also, for those interested, I've included links to both bicyclekick's and Schneid's 60k in 60 days challenge below.

Schneids - http://www.geormiet.com/schneids.html - $31,366 / $60,000

Gonores - http://www.geormiet.com/gonores.html - $46,404 / $60,000

Neither of these numbers are anything to be ashamed about, and I could only wish to be as good of poker players as both of these guys. However, that doesn't mean I don't want to beat the crap out of their achievements My strength will be my willingness to put in a lot of hours if I need to catch up at some point. Money rules all.

Anyways, I'm done rambling on, so if you care about this, I'll update semi-regularly on my progress. If not, don't worry, I'll keep the clutter very low.

On to Day 1...

-----------------------------------------

Day 1 was my last day doing the Party Poker Million V Cruise Package crazy-challenge. I know you are going to say I only picked it because I ran good, but that's only partially true. Before I even woke up, I was down an ungodly amount (about $9,000) from the week before. I said to myself that if I woke up and did even decent, this was going to be the start of my $60k in 60 days challenge. I had to start soon because I've only got until Mid-March to finish this thing and I had to allow myself a few days (see above).

So anyways, I woke up at like 11 AM and played pretty much a non-stop 8-10 tables of $10/20 6max until 11 PM. I played 9,004 hands in 12 hours, 15 minutes according to PT.

I felt like crap afterwards and I seriously wanted to die. I can say with reasonable certainty I will never play another day like this again during the challenge. I've peaked already. Here's how I'm doing so far:

Day 1 Winnings: $5,265

1 Day Total Winnings: $5,265

8.8% of the way there after Day 1.

All I have to do is keep running at 3BB/100 + and play a crapload of hours and I'll be OK Yeah... that won't happen.

-------------------

Day 2 is going to be a light day (I think). I'm exhausted after the Party Cruise thing, so I'm going to take it kind of easy.

I woke up and did some light cleaning (much more needs to be done before I move out next Friday) and played for a few hours, going down, then coming back up to finish +$900 or so. I went out to eat and then came back and played a little more. Then I ran like a champ and went up another $1,900. How easy it all seems right now... remind me to look at days 1 and 2 as I'm going through a downswing and wanting to murder myself, ok?

I've got to cut today short as my mom called (it's her birthday) and her husband took her to some hotel in downtown San Jose for the night, so she needs someone to go take care of her dogs and stuff... guess that'd be me. No idea what she is going to do after I move away. I don't feel like dragging my desktop (and my laptop is a piece of crap), so I'm done for today.

All in all, I played 2,448 hands over 4 and a half hours, which is slightly less than I want to get it on a normal basis. My goal is about 6 hours a day so I'm already slipping, but I deserve an easy day. I've also made the decision that New Year's Eve is going to be an off day, because otherwise that's just wrong.

I have a physical therapy appointment tomorrow for my ass, which has started acting up worse this last day and a half (it was fine all weekend for the Party Cruise Promo though... odd). So more ass massaging by the hot chick. I'm going to miss her after my next appointment, since she doesn't live in Nevada, meaning I need to find a new one. I've also considered going to a chiropractor if this doesn't start working soon.

That's about it. Got to go before the dogs like starve and stuff. That'd be horrible.

Day 2 Winnings: $2,805

2 Day Total Winnings: $8,070

13.5% of the way there after Day 2.

There's no way this pace keeps up. It should be noted that Dougiefish ran hot too at first when he tried this.

you are seriously nuts. you get diagnosed with some weird health problem likely due to sitting around too much. so whats your next move? attempt to play poker for 90889042389023509 hrs to get a cruise. then you do this challenge which will put you squarely in a chair for 60 more days.

i would love to know how many hands you played this year... gl on another challenge. something tells me you won't be so successful on the cardio challenge though.

I've created a rule. I can't play any poker until I finish the cardio challenge for the day. In lieu of cardio, I will be going to physical therapy instead tomorrow.

Also, one of the reasons I'm doing these challenges is because I haven't played quite so many hands this year as I'd like to have. I really am very lazy (big surprise) most of the time and get very few hands in.

I sit on my ass (as does most of the rest of the population) for most of the day anyways. I just want to play some poker while I do it instead of jerking off to internet porn or browswing these forums.

I still intend to get out plenty and do stuff on the weekends in Nevada.

Good luck. It's crazy, but I think you might be able reach it, because you seem to be able to put in so insane hours. I'll consider doing same challenge in summer.

Re: $60k in 60 Days - Days 1 and 2

I can't believe you are doing this on the heels of that wacky marathon.

I'm still recovering and getting my sleep schedule back and sitting at the computer to play some hands was about the last thing I wanted to do.

But you said you were pretty lazy before and that the cruise-marathon is showing you what you can accomplish if you are truly motivated...so I guess it's probably good that you are just keeping your momentum going.

As you know, I tend to be conservative in my estimates of success sometimes.
you are obviously off to a hot start so I do believe that you have a very good chance of successfully making it all the way. In fact, I would estimate your chances here to be stronger than those of you actually getting that cruise (and you obviously got that one....so the $60k should be a LOCK).

your ideas on not forcing yourself to play too many tables if you don't feel like it or if the table-conditions don't warrant it...as well as all the other introductory stuff...actually made for interesting reading.

I seem to have a missed a thread somewhere in there about your butt (probably in OOT I guess)...but I think I can pass on that one.

Re: $60k in 60 Days - Days 1 and 2

how many total number of hands are you trying to get in to crack the 60k? obviously there needs to be a certain number to make it to even if you maintain your believed winrate of 2BB+/100. if you ran at precisely 2BB/100 youd need to put in 150,000 hands to make it to 60k (you did say no rakeback right?).

from your original post in this thread, you said that youre going to try and 4-8table the games now. i dont think that 10tabling is possible over this sort of duration but because you continually like to say you 10table you have an edge over the others who do this challenge because of your ability to play more hands then them.

you said 10tabling nets you 900hands/hr, so in order to reach 150,000 hands youd only have to put in 166 hours assuming you 10table straight.

of course you wont be able to do that so lets assume you net a reasonable 650hands/hr, youd only have to put in 230 hours to reach your goal.

sounds doable, but truthfully this challenge will probably come down to variance.

good luck. hope the cardio works out.

TheMetetron 12-29-2005 04:19 PM

Re: $60k in 60 Days - Days 1 and 2

150k hands in 60 days is about what I estimate. I am going to try to put in more because I need to be able to beat variance.

Also, I'll probably average 500-550 hands per hour it looks like.

Re: $60k in 60 Days - Days 1 and 2

dude get rid of those varicose veins or whatever you got before you start another challenge. We know you got game ..if I had any serious health problems poker would be on the back burner and I'd be devoting 3-4 hours a day to getting things re-balanced physically not just a 45 minute a day cardio workout.

Keep some balance in your life unless you are just on a mission to make as much money as possible in the next few years from poker. I guess I just dont understand the hurry when you have exceptional talent you 'll always be able to make lots of molla.

When I was in my twenties all I was doing was [censored] everything in sight and partying my ballz off...but I stayed in good shape during those years. You have the rest of your life-30's and 40's to vegitate in front of a computer screen. Dont live a middle-aged life at such a young age..beleive me I'm 43..You are only going to be young once enjoy it..

People on these boards are mentioning health issues and they are in their 20's. If you got issues in your 20's the 40's are going to be very ugly indeed...get the hell outside.

I'm taking care of my stuff. She gave me some stuff to do, but cardio is basically out of the question except for maybe swimming (too much impact, she doesn't want that).

Honestly there isn't a whole lot more I can do if I spent 3 hours a day instead of 30 minutes a day doing what she wants me to do. <font color="pink"> </font>

Re: $60k in 60 Days - Days 1 and 2

if you need any swimming tips let me know I just swam 3300 yards in under an hour. I swim 5/6 days a week. All Masters workouts either in a group or I just do the workouts by myself. Glad to hear you are seeing a doc.

4 years ago when I got back into swimming I couldnt swim 5 laps. Just start out very very slowly maybe take a lesson or two. UNLV has a pool, they are supposed to be buiding a new one soon..but Vegas doesnt have alot in the way of Masters swimming like LA County but I'm sure you could find something. I checked around a few months ago.

It's a great exercise becuase you get an all-around body workout but with no stress to your joints. It will lengthen your muscles not make you cut,it will lower your heartrate but best of all it offers a zen-like feeling when you get into it just a little bit. It is very meditative..If you have any problems at all with depression regular swimming will vanquish it...it could be the perfect exercise for you since you need to exercise and you are very wound up and competitive...

here are a few links if you need em:

Swimming Things You Can Do to be a Better Swimmer

Total Immersion Swimming

United States Masters Swimming

you dont need to any of this organized stuff just get in the water and slowly swim a few more laps each day..you may like it you may not give it a shot. You will not like it until you give it a solid shoot thu ..by that I mean 2-4 weeks of regular slow workouts so dont expect to just get into it from the start.

If you cant swim at all dont be intimidated ..no problemo take a week or so of cheap lessons ie YMCA and you will be able to start from there.

Good luck on this challenge, I really enjoy reading these things WHEN people put the time and effort into giving interesting updates.

Also, congrads to you and Microbob (and whoever else) in getting the Cruise. I was following the updates on that but I havn't been posting a lot lately. I was going to try it myself but I can go that specific week so I'm going to put my time and resources into other things.

So again, good luck.

Rakeback not included . . .

Based on what I assume is an extensive history at 10-20 max-6, what is the amount of rakeback generated per 100 hands at a "full" table ?

If you'd prefer not to divulge or even hint at the % you receive could you instead tell us (me) how much rake you pay per 1,000 ? (Or whatever unit your like, per 100, per hand, etc).

I've always assumed there was no huge difference between rake paid per "X" number of hands between max-6 and a full ring game (9 or 10 handed).

Am I mistaken in this assumption ?

Thanks in advance to you and anyone else who replies - apologies in advance if this question has been asked and answered before.

Best wishes for the new year,

- Chris

there's something that's not right about doing a $52k in 80 days challenge and pretending you're doing something comparable to what schneids and gonores did.

i think the next time i run good and make $60k in 60 days, i'll make a $60k in 60 days challenge post on the 60th day and declare myself a poker champion having defeated schneids and gonores.

you, sir, are a douche.

Let me get my facts straight.

You are taking a cruise then spending the following month in Cancun but first you are attemting to win 60k in 2 months (which you expect to either accomplish or come damned near accomplishing) and today you woke up and did "a little light cleaning" ?

None of my business, I guess, but did you ever consider . . .

PAYING SOMEONE TO CLEAN FOR YOU ?

The girl who cleans my house charges $75 for 4 hours; I generaly make it 100 even unless I ask her to do something vile such as the oven (old cast iron model - no self-clean) or remove old and apply new wax to the hardwood floors in which case I add a few $$$.

BTW, she's 19, a college student, hot as hell, and might well do it topless for the right amount. (Would never offer - too risky - offend her and I'll never be able to replace her).

It's OK to spend some of that wealth - really, it is OK.
