Folded KQs 3-handed (originally posted in HU forum)

I originally, mistakenly posted this in another forum.

Three players left from a 20 person home tournament which pays 3 places (3rd place gets their buy-in back).

Blinds: $800/$1600.

Me: BB, short stack, with $1200 left after posting.
SB (tight player) has about $1800 after posting.
Button (loose player) has $4000.

The button raises $1600, and the small blind, who has played very few hands and has always had a hand when he makes a move, goes all in.

I have KdQd and fold. Button calls.

I figured I'd be up against an Ace and a medium pocket pair. Bad move?

I am hardly psychic enough to determine that my opponents have Ax and a medium pair, but I know how to calculate pot odds. You seem to have the exact opposite problem.

All in all, I would rather be you. Math is easy to learn, but mind-reading is hard.

Without doing the math, I suspect that when you have over half your stack in the big blind already, it's hard to imagine that a fold is correct.

You are all in with any two. It's hard to believe that you're not 33% in the pot with KQs. Winner of this hand wins the tournament.

You're getting almost ~6:1 to call the push. Any two will do.

Yeah.

Gotta stick it in there with KQs.

Just to toss a scenario out there:

Holdem Hi: 1370754 enumerated boards
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Kd Qd 525045 38.30 841644 61.40 4065 0.30 0.384
As 9c 399806 29.17 966883 70.54 4065 0.30 0.293
6s 6d 441838 32.23 924851 67.47 4065 0.30 0.323

20 person tourney and 3rd only gets their buying back? That means that the payout for 2nd / 1st is 19 buyins? I'll assume 12 / 7 for first/second?

That's a huge payjump and has an enourmous effect on this hand. You will probably still end up calling, but the fact that this hasn't been addressed is scary.

I'm not sure from your post. Do you have SB covered? IF you do, this is the easiest call in the world because you only lose if SB beats both of you and button beats you.

I thought you would get a different answer in this forum and everyone would say folding was a great play.

LOL, I feel like an idiot. I didn't have the SB covered. My decision was heavily affected by the difference in payout between 2 & 3rd.
