What is the play here?

llTiltPoker Game #279007600: $4,000 Guarantee (1767528), Table 3 - 250/500 Ante 50 - No Limit Hold'em - 16:14:30 ET - 2005/11/05
Seat 1: elemeno (12,847)
Seat 2: PhatPhish (8,703)
Seat 3: thelittleangel (4,458)
Seat 4: roughneck141 (9,376)
Seat 5: thedavis333 (9,240)
Seat 6: redshirt (10,371)
Seat 7: ykcir14 (11,642)
Seat 8: zippy_cootie (5,200)
Seat 9: mudda_fugga (11,147)
PhatPhish posts the small blind of 250
thelittleangel posts the big blind of 500
The button is in seat #1
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to PhatPhish [5c Tc]
roughneck141 folds
thedavis333 folds
redshirt folds
ykcir14 folds
zippy_cootie calls 500
mudda_fugga folds
elemeno calls 500
PhatPhish calls 250
thelittleangel checks

Do you even call with this hand from the small blind?

Total pot = 2,450

*** FLOP *** [9h 9d Ts]

Do you bet out at this pot, and if so, how much?

PhatPhish bets 1,500
thelittleangel folds
zippy_cootie folds
elemeno calls 1,500
*** TURN *** [9h 9d Ts] [6h]

Now what?

PhatPhish bets 3,000
elemeno raises to 10,797, and is all in
PhatPhish folds

I think this is an easy fold as I can only beat a draw or possibly an underpair. I have trouble with these types of hands and don't know a good safe way to play them other than not playing them at all. Thanks in advance for all those that reply.

Uncalled bet of 7,797 returned to elemeno
elemeno mucks
elemeno wins the pot (11,450)

Re: What is the play here?

This is a crappy situation and I'm curious to see what others say. OOP, I may check/call the flop, but that's a little risky because it's so draw-heavy. I probably check the turn and call a bet depending on my read on villain. In a vacuum I fold to a turn bet. If he checks behind on the turn, I bet an offsuit river and fold to a raise.

Your line isn't horrible and may be better than mine.

I would push on the flop.

Re: What is the play here?

Preflop is fine IMO, I'll play any 2 suited cards with one limper on the sb hoping to spike trips, 2 pair, or a flush.

On the flop, I wouldn't bet out, I'd check, if a late position puts in a raise, depending the size of it, will reraise at least 2.5x his raise and see what happens. If he goes all in or calls, I am thru with the hand unless a 10 comes on the turn. If he bets more than 1000, I obviously wouldn't have enough chips to go for a big reraise here, and would let the hand go at minimal risk, but if its at 1000, I am willing to raise to 2500 to try to take down a nice pot.

If I did bet the flop and got a call, with no draws and only a possible straight draw, trips, or full house, I'll definitely check and fold. As it stood, on the turn it was about 4000 chips left in your stack to win a pot of almost 12,000 (rounding both up for simple math purposes). You got exactly 3:1 on a call there, and even then I think you are behind more than that to call (behind any higher pair, any 9, pocket 10s, pocket 6s, any higher Tx hand, and only ahead of straight and unlikely flush draws here. And I don't think you will see pocket 6's stick around after that bet, or any other lower pocket pair, so I don't know what you would be ahead of here cept for a stone cold bluff.

I think you could have saved 1/3 of your stack by not betting that turn, just don't see many cards sticking around after that flop bet.
