I dont think anything but a high flush can call you, and it seems like he doesn't have it. He could have a lot of hands... if you beat him here, he'll fold to a raise and if you dont beat him i think he'll fold a strait or higher 2 pair so reraise on the river is the best line

Why no raise on the flop? You want to make people with a high spade pay to see a turn. I think a raise of say $30 would make sesne.
Thoughts?

yea, good point, i forgot to say that...

someone with a high spade, mostly the ace, will put a decent amout of money in the pot at 2/4 so why not get more money in with apparently the best hand

I think he played that well until the river. His raise like the first posted said could only be called by a high flush there and if your oppenant is someone who would fold an overpair, I dont think this was a good raise on the river.

I also feel like raising the flop would be a bad play because say you get reraised after raising the flop by a flush, you could have drawn cheaply at a boat by calling instead. Depending on his actions on the turn and the turn card, you would know whether to push then or fold the hand.

raising the flop is trouble. i like a turn raise better.

Re: 54s on the button - how\'s my line?

Here were my thoughts on the hand -

I have no read on UTG+2 but BB was an uber-rock.

When UTG+2 bet I put him on top pair - I figured I'd call and push him off his hand on the turn.

When BB called I wasn't sure what to think. When BB then led on a non-spade turn I immediately put him on a baby flush. Many rocks will take this line with a baby flush - not wanting to invest a lot of money OOP on a hand where you're not going to win a lot but could lose a lot.

I only called the turn because I figured I was probably behind and didn't think a raise would fold a better hand.

When the river spade hit, the rock's weak bet told me he didn't like it. Seeing as how I put him on a low flopped flush the only way I take it down is to raise. Also, from his perspective I could very easily have been drawing to that fourth spade with the naked As.

So basically my raise was meant to represent a high spade and was meant to get him to fold - which he did.

I love your line, I love the way you thought about it, I love the result.

Nice hand.

is this because if you raise the flop you might get moved in on by a big spade?
