\"Resolution\" of My 2001fp Problem and Request for Card Recomd\'n

First, I want to thank those that responded to my post last night about my monitor problem. At 11:30 I gave up trying to make the DVI connection work and switched it back to analog. It's not great, though. I get lots of shadowing of text that makes small print difficult to read.

Thanks especially to Eratosthenes who posted a great link to a recent post at Tom's Hardware that talks about this issue, among others. For those of you that have older pc's and have bought or are buying new monitors, I highly recommend you check it out.

I now know that I need a new grahics card. So, I'm hoping to get some words of wisdom from y'all as to which card I should buy. I'm not a gamer, so probably don't need the latest and greatest recommended by Maximum PC, but I'm also not afrraid to spend some bucks to make it as easy as possible on these tired old eyes. If I read the post at Tom's Hardware right, I'm not sure NVIDIA is necessarily the way to go.

Anyway, I think the Zoo gave great collective advice on the monitor. I hoping it can/will do the same on the card.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Sounds like you could use one of the lower-end ATI Radeon cards. If you're not going to play games or do anything fancy with your video, I'd recommend any of the 9xxx series cards. I picked up a 9800 Pro this past Thanksgiving and I love it. $140 after rebates.

Check out Newegg.com. delivery only takes a few days and the prices are great. I got a Dual head AGP for about $50 and run two monitors at 1600x1200
