7 Card Help
 

I love playing 7stud at the casino in Milwaukee. The game usually runs with a $1-$5 spread with a minumum of $1 to bring in, and a kill sometimes where the spread is doubled if someone wins twice in a row.

People are usually good at this table because all the flounders are at the $2-$4 hold'em tables. What starting hands do you recommend to be profitable at this game?

This game has no ante? Games with no ante really suck. You're kinda forced to make sure that you have the best hand on third and then just keep charging any callers the max. Basically you are going to be forced to play so tight that against soild players (as you labeled them) you will have to fold any lower pair than your opponent has indicated. Ex. Ace raises you're usually required to fold kings instantly here. Against bad/loose players however you can do a lot of limping. I think sitting bull and a few others play in games like this and could give you additional advice.

You need a few really bad players to make a no-ante game at such low limits profitable. Now, take that same 1-5 spread game and slap a .50 ante on there with the $1 bring in and you've got one of the most profitable games in the poker room on a bb/hr basis.

I gotta agree with the other guys, play real tight. Getting out of line on third is going to lose you alot more money.

Is this at Potowatomi? I heard their room sucked so I haven't checked it out, maybe I'll stop over there sometime though. Do they ever run any regular limit stud games?

They just run 1-5 spread on stud, and thats only if people are interested. They also have 2-4, 3-6, 5-10, 10-20, 30-60 holdem and a no limit holdem with 3SB and 7BB and a $200-$600 buy in

Since weak players tend to play too many hands and go too far with them, it doesn't make sense that a game with an ante would increase a strong player's win rate, since the weak opponents are playing closer to correct since there is more money in the pot to start.

Ah grasshopper, but ask yourself this: what KIND of player wants to play in a no ante game? What KIND of player wants to play in an overante game.

An old rock with a newspaper and a cup of coffee who wants to kill some time thinks no ante is great.

A loose aggressive who wants to get in and gamble may get gutted once or twice, but he won't like the action.

Put on that overante and now the old rock hates the game while the LAG loves it. He can build big pots, make some big scores and, most important, get plenty of action. Meanwhile, you can start stronger, play better and win much, much more than your share.

I think sitting bull has done well in low limit no ante games, but I think there are dam few who do, when you combine the nittiness and small pots with the big rake. Whereas the low limit 1-5 at Fox with the .50 ante is a great, rocking game (or was the last time I played in it).
