Re: How do you get Verizon broadband for 60 bucks?

it is my belief that the verizon people made a mistake for some of those who got the $60 deal without having a Verizon calling-plan.

I am stuck with paying $80 because my guy was aware of how it was supposed to work...and I haven't bothered to change my phone over yet.
If I change my phone by Jan 6 then I will be saving $20 month on the verizon-internet thing.
I should probably do this since the phone-service doesn't really matter to me.

I'll have to buy a new phone though...but the $20 I save per month on the internet thing will make up the difference after awhile.

thanks for the reminder that i need to get off the stick and take care of this sometime.

I don't know. I was under the impression it was $35 and $30 if you take a land phone package and sign for a year which is what I have and the speed is 1.5/768. I think they have a superspeed package about double that speed that costs about $60.

You can get a laptop access card and get the EVDO broadband package but its only $59.99 if you have a voice plan also on the account. The package on just the laptop card is $79.99/month.

he's referring to the verizon card for laptops which is called their 'broadband access' plan.
lots of TV commercials running for it (the guy trying to work on his laptop in the crowded coffee-shop).

in select cities, you get broadband-access no matter where you are in the city.the whole city is a giant hot-spot essentially.

in non-major-markets you connect via digital-cellular which is about 2x speed of dial-up and works fine for internet-poker (this is all i'm able to get in memphis..but i'm hoping they get the broadband-access soon).
i think the broadband access is in about 40 different cities in the U.S. or so.

on my last trip out of town i was easily able to play in the car (during the times my GF was driving of course).
a little tough when the sun is shining on the screen though.

i got broadband-access once we hit Washington DC....and was the 'national-access' (digital-cellular) most of the way there.

Did you test speed when you were in DC? I wonder what kind of peaks you got.

i didn't check the speed so couldn't tell you.

i know that it was really fast though...but i wasn't streaming-video or downloading music or anything like that so can't say for certain.

however, they have some info about this on their website.

and i'm sure there are others on here who have this who are in large markets.

They do, but I don't believe when a place gives their own stats because hey always inflate them and they're never "real time".

I'd rather take someones word who used it than them telling me how fast it's "supposed" to be. Those of you who had Verizon DSL for a couple years now know exactly what I mean.
