I like your play preflop and on the flop, but I don't like your play on the turn. Your semibluff raise on the flop suggests you have TTxx or 77xx, not Axxx(s [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]). So your pot bet on the turn is inconsistent, making it an easy call for Villain if he has any flush. I think a 1/2 pot bet is sufficient to test Villain's hand if that's what you want to do.

An advanced play that might work here since you are playing 5/10 is checking behind the turn, then raising all-in on the river if Villain bets, or betting the pot if he checks to you on the river. (AKA the delayed naked-ace bluff. )

Just a question from someone trying to learn, but couldnt a reraise here also suggest a hand like:

A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]-J-8-9 with one of those three also a [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Yes it could, but joe's line is better. Raising the flop like that and then betting when the flush gets there will often just be read as a set trying not to get bluffed and won't be believed as often as waiting until the flush gets there to bet/raise. And of course this should only usually be done against tighter players.

Id like it better if you had some reads. If you knew he wasnt a player to make tough calls though then I think its all good, though Id bet $400 or so on the turn. If he has a set and draws for the house, you need to leave him something to fold for on the river.

I think this does more than just leave villain something to fold for on turn, I think it makes the flush more convincing. Betting like half pot forces villain to define his hand but also seems less likely to be read as a bluff, and more as trying to "sell the nuts," as it were. Agree anyone?

I agree, (and that's why I said it first!)

Bare ace plays are like beating lie detector tests - you have to really believe you have the nut flush.

I actually really like the idea of betting $400 a lot more. In the actual hand he folded but I thought my larger bet was a mistake but just didn't happen to show it this time.
