Poker can be fun. One for Nicky...

Not overly interesting IMO but feel free to comment. Just another one for Fat Nicky since he basically called us all a bunch of girlscouts yesterday.

Party 2/4...shorthanded...I think 5 handed at the time.

UTG is a maniac...about 96/76/3.xx from what I remember.

Hero is button with K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].

UTG raises, 1 fold, Hero 3-bets, blinds fold, UTG surprisingly just calls.

Flop A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
UTG checks, hero value bets, UTG calls.

Turn 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
UTG checks, hero value bets, UTG calls.

River 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
UTG checks, hero value bets.

I think it's great until you spew that extra chip on the river. I check behind and consider my turn bet a "free showdown play".

With VP$IP/PFR/AF numbers like he's got combined with his actions on the previous streets I think you can be fairly certain that you're only getting called by a better hand here.

LOL.... Yes I did see you hit the "miracle" 5 on the river!! hehe

But... What do think he's calling with that you beat and he'll pay you off with.

The only hands you beat are 33, 44, something that paired the 2 or the 5 or a busted draw.

Do you really feel like you're making money against these small range of possibilities? And since he's such a maniac can't you also expect that a decent percentage of the time he c/r bluffs you and you have to lay down? Or were you intending on calling a raise here?

This type of opponent calls with any K or Q or who knows what just in case I'm bluffing. He doesn't check/call to the river with anything I'm behind once I catch the 5 though. He caps preflop with any pocket pair.

I think you check behind for value on the river.

I really didn't mean for this to be a serious thread. But since there are so many arguments against the river bet...the opponents went to showdown number for the session (maybe 75 hands total or so) was extremely high (like 75% or something ridiculous) and he had called down with hands such as 9-high or others that couldn't have possibly won several times. People who bluff relentlessly seem to feel others do the same. Add that to the fact that I had yet to see the opponent play passively with ANY pair and this was a pretty easy bet. But like I said I really didn't expect to generate any serious discussion on this one.
