I should get away from this shouldn\'t I?

Only have 14 hands on villian. He's playing a lot of hands, not winning, and not showing anything down. He looks bad. At the time, I was pretty sure of my read, but after the fact, I not quite as convinced I'm playing this right.

Preflop - looking for a set but willing to call upto 10% of smaller stack. (I can get away from this hand if I don't hit, right?)

Flop - this looks good to me, I'm probably ahead more times than not. My hand could easily be 89s the way I played it.

He called A8o?

Turn - blank - second barrel. Ouch. think I have to call this.

River 8 - I might be ok here.

I'm thinking a check fold on the turn is the correct line here.

All comments welcome.

I think check/fold turn is good. Or c/c flop, c/f turn if villain is unknown. dont see too many second barrels here with AK when you could easily have trips or full house.

Re: I should get away from this shouldn\'t I?

If he is bad I'd expect him to raise you on the flop with an overpair. Given his preflop raise and flop call I'm just putting him on overcards at this point calling loosely. Turn he raises you all in. I put him on 66 or nothing/draw so I definetely call. He may have AK of diamonds or so.

If he's not bad then he could easily have the overpair though he doesn't seem to fear you have an 8. I'd probably bet more on the flop to define things.

Button has 6s Ah (full house, eights full of sixes). I of course have FH eights full of tens.
Outcome: Hero wins $36.26.

I think I like playing a small pot here. Probably check call. Check call.

Thanks for the reply guys. Help with routine situations that are no brainers to you guys is much appreciated.

You didn't mention that he was a complete monkey preflop. Also, why aren't you raising preflop? I raise TT there 90% of the time, at least.

Questions for TWP

Didn't know he was a complete monkey but gave a hint in the header...check it out. It says Monkey Poker. I just checked the session and this is the only hand he showed down.

PFR% with TT is 78% +-~10% by position. This was one where I didn't raise. Guess I can push the raise % up a bit higher but hate the reraise.

You really put in 90% PFR with TT from UTG+1? What about 77-99?

Re: Questions for TWP

I only play 6m so yes, I raise with those mid pocket pairs a lot. Even in full ring, though, I am usually raising TT from any position except possibly the blinds.

PFR% for TT, 10 max and 6 Max.

I'd probably open raise TT in 6 max as well.

Ten max, I think it needs to be lower. esp in EP.

What are everyone's TT PFR% numbers?

Re: PFR% for TT, 10 max and 6 Max.

I've made my case for not raising TT UTG/UTG+1 in full ring.

This is for a couple of reasons. One is that if you do flop an overpair, you often make more money by not raising PF from people calling with A6o. Secondly, there is almost always an overcard, often two, and you frequently have to bet into two or so players left to act.

Re: PFR% for TT, 10 max and 6 Max.

I only play 6 max and raise tt, most of the time, from any position. My reasons are the following

1. I can win unimproved
2. If I hit a set, I'll typically win a bigger pot
3. the more I raise the more action I'll get with my really good hands. And so even if I end up dumping tt on the flop, it still pays to raise it preflop.

Good thinking or bad?

What I do not do is reraise preflop in position with 99, tt, jj, ak--except against total morons.

6-maxers--do you reraise with these hands? If so, under what conditions?
