**OFFICIAL Stars 100K added**

Table #162. Go get 'em.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

Not in this for the basic reason that 405'th gets $800 while 19'th gets $2400. This payout blows...so make the final table. GL.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

Adanthar, that seems like a strange reason for passing up a tournament with negative rake.

The tournament is effectively $553-23 rather than $500+30.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

Not enough overlay/too much time investment when there's sixteen other tournaments today with the same or better numbers that pay out properly.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

16? Either you're exaggerating or i'm waaaay out of the loop...

Party 350k, Stars +100k, what other major tournaments are there today?

adanthar 12-25-2005 06:23 PM

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

Bodog, FT, Paradise, Absolute, Pokerroom, etc. etc. all have relatively big tourneys with overlays today

I don't quite understand how the prize structure makes it a waste of time.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

to compare Party is paying $375 to 400th place, and $4000 to 19th place, for a tournamnet with 250k less in the prizepool

T3670 Break #1

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

3195 at first break. My table had a few super-loose donkeys but I didn't get nearly as many of their chips as I hoped. Ah well.
Table 200.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

I think what you say has a ton of merit. I'm still playing but I'm an action junkie. I really do hate the payout structures.

At least my reason is after a number of second final tables in big online tournaments where I have played extremely well only to get a little bad luck at the end I get basically no payment, it is not commensurate with the performance.

They do it so they can bloat the top payments and I don't think that makes sense.

other1 12-25-2005 06:38 PM

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

T3595 at the first break. I had AA and KK stand up. Must be Christamas. Of course I didn't win much with them.

So what? I still don't understand how that makes this bad. The reduction in variance from a flatter payout structure has it's advantages.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

Better players are going to have higher finish distributions than other players.. so this is basically taking money from the better players.

I don't think it's enouogh to counter the 100k overlay though.

this is similar to the problem players have with the 20% payouts.

other1 12-25-2005 06:54 PM

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

I don't think its terrible. Yes it's weighted towards a huge first prize, but they are still paying > 20%. I'd guess most people didn't buy in directly. I won my seat for $20.. So I have a good chance of cashing for at least $800 on my $20 and an off chance of cashing for $175k. Doesn't seem so bad to me. If I were buying in directly I might not like the structure, but that's why I never buy in to big money tournaments directly.

so you won't be dissapointed when people change the payouts to hurt better players?

A great player can play a hundred of these tourneys and never even make the final table. I don't have a problem with a flatter payout structure.

My QQ held up against 88 all-in and I won a decent pot next hand with TT. Up to T6335.

Re: **Official Stars 100K added**

I'm out. Card dead something awful. So I donked my way down from 3100 to 1300, pushed J9s late and ran into big blind's AA.
I hate feeling like I've wasted two hours of my life with nothing to show for it. I never had a chance.

t6700, at table 97.

Re: 2nd break

I had my KK wrecked by a set of 10s just before the break. Was down as low as 850. Managed to scrape back to 2800 now. Still could use some help.

Re: 2nd break

Raise with JJ in EP, got called by 77 and 88. Flop came 887 lol. Fortunately they both just called my flop bet and an A came on the turn so I was left with some chips.

OMG.. AA v TT all in preflop.. same guy.. he flopped a set of tens AGAIN!!

I think one of the interesting things is how varied good players' opinions are of correct payout structures.

I didn't get what you meant by this response, were you referring to the 20%?

True, but the great player will likely finish in the top 35 a few times out of the 100 trials. It's for that reason that I don't like the kind of payout structure Stars is using today.

It's not that the payout structure is "flatter". I wouldn't mind too much if they took some of the money that would normally go to the final table and redistributed it to the ninth decile. Problem is that so much of the redistributed money is coming from the second, third, and fourth tables (10th through 36th spots).

I\'m gone

4000 chips, raised k9o on the button (I love the 100/200/25 level for stealing), bb calls, flop k high, he pushes for ~2k, I call, he shows 77, turn 7. Oh well.

gisb0rne 12-25-2005 08:26 PM

Re: I\'m gone

I have a bad feeling I'm getting knocked out before the money. 2600 with 300/600 blinds, ~470 players left.

Re: **OFFICIAL Stars 100K added**

level 9 ..only got 9k chips but getting zero hands...and they fold when I raise most of the time....they know I'm a tight ass.

other1 12-25-2005 08:35 PM

Re: I\'m gone

I know the feeling. I just went out 435th. Was shortstacked.. pushed KQ. AT called, I hit a K, he hit an A.

gisb0rne 12-25-2005 08:36 PM

Re: **OFFICIAL Stars 100K added**

Well I stole the blinds then doubled up with TT vs. 77, then won a couple more pots to get up to 12k.

Ugh lost one down to 9k.

Proofrock 12-25-2005 08:48 PM

3rd break

meh. t4500. what i wouldn't give for two broadway cards or a pocket pair.
