Hellmuths FW hand vs Corkins

I saw a re-run of this last week. The FW WPT tourney and the hand in question is the one that Mike Sexton said it looked like Hellmuth's pants were on fire .

Hellmuth had J9o and Corkins J7o and Hellmuth completed from the SB and they took a flop. The flop was 9xx and Hellmuth lead out with a bet. Corkins raised with nothing and Hellmuth called.

The Turn was a 7 and it went check, check. I don't want to debate whether Hellmuth should or should not have bet here. The River was another 7 and Hellmuth bet and of course Corkins raised and Hellmuth paid him off and jumped up "like his pants were on fire" when he saw he lost to running 7's.

The point of my post is that I don't think Hellmuth should bet this River. He should check and call as his bet has no expectation of getting paid off if he has the best hand. Apologies if this has already been discussed.

i think it greatly depends on what XX were.

after it goes ch ch on the turn, Hoyt might pay off w/ A high there.

I wish I could remember xx but with a player like Corkins I'd rather check and induce a bluff or as in this case lose less if I'm beat.

This was a great hand to watch.

"Good god in heaven. I had him drawing dead to running sevens."

"But I wasn't gonna put another penny in after my bluff".

"Suppose a Jack comes on the River, then do I bust you Hoyt?"

Or something like that. It was a great exchange.

Not after Hellmuth calls his flop raise.

The best was the aces over kings vs. kings over aces hand. Hellmuth started bitchen and Hoyt just said that Phil let him draw out on him. It shut Phil up nicely.

Hoyt Corkins is a f--king donk. He hasn't played a single hand that I've seen in a way that seemed like great poker.

There, I said it.

You're preaching to the choir my friend. He put me out in this same tourney with a very donk play. I've posted it before so I won't bore everyone with it.

But this is obviously sour grapes on my part since he's had a lot of success in big tourneys.
