why did you choose fixed limit shorthanded?
 

I just thought about this.. What are the reasons you play limit shorthanded?
Why not NL?
I'm not gonna ask "what is the most profitable?" because thats a stupid question I guess... But still..
I can't help thinking there is a possibility I made the wrong choice on FL instead of NL.. Can someone please straight my thoughts out?

The reason I started FL was because I didn't like to loose big pots, I got devastated loosing a "big" pot at 0,01/0,2..
When moving up, I didn't have the will or energy to learn NL, so I just kept going on FL and finally made the jump to shorthanded..

Because I hate myself.


And also, shorthanded teaches you to play alot stronger and more aggressively, this is a trait I didnt have when I was a fullhanded player.

if you're not too far up the SH ladder (i dont really know how long you've been playing) id suggest trying to specialize in SNGs. They have MUCH less risk vs reward. Plus they are better at tournaments.

picking SH over full ring was kinda easy.. SH is more profitable.. atleast I have heard...

Well..

In my 3rd week of SH play (about 35k or 40k hands into it), I had a downswing that was about 3x bigger than my worst downswing at 3/6 fullhanded. And I played 3/6 fullhanded professionally for 300kish hands.

As of yet, I havent learned to beat 5/10 6max for more than I could beat 3/6 10max.

Its a hard game, but I've played a few 10max games lately and I can honestly say that my SH play has brought my game way above where it was before my 6max experience.

I've been playing NL on the side (aka while doing hw) for like 3 weeks now and it seems easier than SHFL.

I guess i just like getting punched in the face. over and over again. And when i get lonely i open 1 table of 10/20 6max and then cry myself to sleep.

B/c theres more action in SH than in NL. While NL revolves aroudn 1 or 2 pivital decisions, in SHFL, your making tons of decisions every hand. Your playing more hands w/SH and your pushing smaller edges.

I've tried my hand at NL a few times and while its kinda fun for a short time, it gets real boring real fast. You don't push the same types of edges and get folded out of a lot of pots if the flop doesn't hit you just right.

FWIW, I think limit is just a more profitable, all be it more frustrating, game. Once you start climbing the limits to 15/30 and beyond, the profit potential of limit is greater than that of NL.

Becauase when I started NL was not popular in casinos and online was not very popular at all. Now I play short instead full because I think there is a lot for me to learn at the 10/20 short tables that will make me a better player and enable me to move higher.

I will stop playing limit poker sometime soon to focus on learning:
NL Holdem, full and short
PL Omaha
Limit O/8

Within the next 6 months I want to be good at all of these games. When I say good I mean that I would like to be able to pay in the $600-$2000 buy in NL and PL games and want to be a winner in at least 10/20 O/8 but wouldn't be really happy unless I can beat 20/40.

All of this may be a pipe dream because it's tough to give up garunteed cash flow.

what makes you want to learn the other games? As you said, hard to give up the cash.
You do it just so you wont get bored or because +EV?
