Rake rebate question

I don't understand why these poker sites are against rake rebates. From what little bit I understand, it looks like they pay the affiliates the same percentage whether the affiliate is offering rakeback or not. Is this true?

Also, why not offer rakeback to long time customers directly? Let's say a site is paying an affiliate 35% of all my rake. He/she, in return, pays me 28%. Wouldn't it make since for the site to pay long time members 28% of their rake and bypass the middle man?

This whole this is dumb. For some reason poker rooms think that affiliates drive their traffic. I think it is crap. I have never had an affiliate convince me to join a poker room. You make the decision to play a room then look for an affiliate, not the other way around.

To answer your question if they offer it directly they would have to pay the people that have never heard of rakeback. Which is a lot of people.

I disagree. I would have never played at Aztec Riches or Titan Poker if it wasn't for PSO promotions...

And now I'm planning on signing up at PokerRoom and Bodog for the same reason, so I think affiliates play a role in recruting players.

Sorry for my anti-affilite rant I actually love affiliates they have given me a lot of money (by my meager standards). I just wish they did not spam the tables like they did, I think this created a problem that was not there.
