NJ CCC poker rule changes

I don't remember now why I went to the NJ CCC page, but I stumbled across a recent rule-change proposal that includes two good ones that apply to the poker rooms:

from here

<quote>19:45-1.19 Acceptance of tips or gratuities from patrons

(c) Upon receipt from a patron of a tip or gratuity, a dealer shall extend his or her arm in an overt motion, and deposit such tip or gratuity in the locked box reserved for such purpose. In addition, a poker dealer who is permitted to retain his or her own tips and gratuities shall verbally notify a supervisor prior to depositing any tip or gratuity with a value in excess of [one dollar] five dollars.</quote>

<quote>19:47-14.18 [Waiting list] Announcement of available games and seats

A casino licensee [may maintain a list of players who have requested to be seated at a particular type of poker table. All vacant seats shall be filled on a first come first served basis. The casino licensee] shall be permitted to announce [only those seating vacancies for which an individual has been placed on a waiting list] in those areas of a casino or simulcasting facility where poker tables are located the particular types of poker games and minimum/maximum wagers that are being offered and the availability of any vacant seats at particular poker tables. </quote>

Bracketed bits are the proposed deletions; bolded bits are the proposed additions.

I had no idea dealers were supposed to announce any tip over a dollar, and I've never seen it done...seems like a nuisance.

I think it was noted here a few months back that at least a couple of the poker rooms had stopped announcing things like "We have open seating for 5-10 hold'em" because they were no longer allowed; the second thing above seems to change that for the better.

These sound like rule changes intended to get the rulebook up-to-date with reality.

I heard the call for open seating at 6/12 and 10/20 tonight at the Borg while I was playing.

The weirdest thing about this is that there are dumb rules that are not followed. I've never seen the floor sort decks unless a card hits the floor. Also, I don't know if that open seat rule was always on the books, but if it was, everyone had forgotten about it.

They most definitly didn't forget about it. Taj got fined for it awhile back.

The rule about calling open seats stems from Taj getting fined a few months ago. Apparently, this is considered "soliciting" which is of course, total BS. So now they say "No Board 50-100 Hold Em" instead of "Open Seating" and that's ok.

The tip rule is to (I believe) prevent dealers from palming chips. They must call out any $5 or greater tip (ie. any tip not in white...so if you tip them a five dollar chip, they will say "Redbird down"). This doesn't have to be approved by the floor, but it must be called at the Taj Mahal. I'm not sure if Borg does this or not.
