John Kerry really said this?

From Face The Nation...

--------------------------------------------------------
Kerry: And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be
going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and
children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the--of--the
historical customs, religious customs. Whether you like it or not--

Schieffer: Yeah.

Kerry: --Iraqis should be doing that.
---------------------------------------------------------

I realize that Bush has an impressive trail of idiotic statements like this to his name, but doesn't this one seem just a little more idiotic than your typical idiotic statement?

I realize that he was probably trying to say one of two things:

1) This is the type of thing that the old Iraqi Republican Guard would do.

2) The Iraqi military should be doing their own work.

However, I still think there is a small chance that he meant what he literally said: Iraqis should be terrorizing women and children.

This was the best that the democratic party had to offer?

No.

And you can't seriously think he's any more dense than "the best the Republican party has to offer"?

I wonder why Kerry took so long signing form 180 to open up his military records in their entirety.

I really don't see any reason to put much stock in a single little slip-up that a politician has when making comments someplace.

Even when it's a totally unsubstantiated claim, essentially saying that our soldiers are terrorizing women and children? I thought the big reason we needed to get out was to save our soldiers, not to save others from our soldiers.

Kerry is, to some extent, speaking for the democrats on this issue. I don't think that what he said above is at all fair to their message.

Well, the claims really aren't unsubstantiated. There have been numerous media reports from foreign journalists and coalition soldiers that report abuse, harassment and intimidation of Iraqi citizens by US soldiers.

Also, the reason we need to get out is because the war has been terribly mismanaged and the soldiers who are there don't have the proper resources and leadership to act as an occupying force.

I think Kerry's brainpower is better associated with a different portion of his anatomy.
