staked at a home game
 

i am currently being staked by the guy who runs the game. $300 buy in, $1/2 NL. he doesnt deal the game, usually a dedicated dealer. he takes whatever loss, split the winnings 50/50.just wondering if this is ethical, since its his game.

Does everyone that plays know of this arrangement? Do both of you never collude intentionally or implicitly (mainly on his part, since when 2 of you are in a hand his EV is greatly improved)?

If no, then it's unethical. If yes, and people don't care, then you might want to ask yourself WHY everyone is happy with your playing under those conditions :P

nobody knows of the arrangement. however he does NOT play, in the game , nor does he deal any hands.

Oh, well if he doesn't play, then it doesn't mean anything... unless "runs the game" means he take a rake from everyone and then has you as a prop as well.

THAT as a hidden arrangement, I wouldn't call ethical. I'd want to know if a prop was playing for the house, I don't think this sounds any different.

I hope you're playing to the best of your ability and not pumping up pots to pump up the rake?

Actually, I don't think that makes you a prop, I think that would make you a shill (playing with house money, whether you get to keep some of winnings or not)

Found this in the Wikipedia so I am certain it is 100% accurate [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

prop -- A player that gets paid an hourly rate to start poker games or to help them stay active. Prop players play with their own money, which distinguishes them from shills who play with the casino's money.

Isn't Wikipedia the greatest site! As for playing under these conditions, I occasionally play with the same type of deal (winnings 50/50 losses are on my investor). However I always play with my investor, and everyone knows we have this deal. This is a very friendly game in that no one would do anything to cheat in anyway, with good players who would bust their own Grand Mothers if the cards were right. My investor has actually busted me out of the game when he had the best of it (most weeks I'm doing the busting). Under these conditions no one seems to have a problem with the deal.
