Help me build a poker computer.
 

I am very sorry, I am sure that this topic has been done around 1,000 times since the inception of this forum. But, I will do it again. I am looking for a computer that can:
Run poker programs(Party, PT, GT+, etc.)
Store a large amount of music/movies.
4 table with no overlap(I do not want a 2001FP, too expensive at the moment)
Other basic things(e-mail, internet usage, etc.)

I need wireless internet, and I would like a video card with the ability to add a second monitor, should I want to in the future. Other than that, nothing very specific.

I would prefer to NOT build my own PC, but if it will be signifigantly cheaper, than I would be willing to undertake this small project.

As cheap as possible, please(preferably sub-$1k.)

I think it's cheaper to buy a computer rather than build your own, unless you plan to steal XP. At the very least get a bare bones system with XP and then add on what you need. I built my own for many years, but never again.

When I said "build a computer", I really just meant "customize". I suck at the internet.

Well, heres my 2 cents.

Start with any modern ( no older than 1 year ) computer...dells / compaq / hp's.

I'd say get 2-4 Dell 2001 fp's.
Upgrade your graphic card possibily to a Radeon 9600 or better. Make sure u have 1024 MB DDR ram or better ( 2 GB preferably ). Wireless mouse / keyboard.

And one of the most important things...a NICE Chair!

Yeah...the big boys like Dell can get better prices on most of the components than you can, and then pay $5 to have somebody put it all together.

Granted, you can accumulate components cheaply if you're willing to wait for rebates, but that takes a while and is mostly limited to RAM and drives.

Why on earth would he want to waste money on buying 2gb or ram? 1gb is enough for what he wants to do, and even 512mb would be enough.

Well...I wrote 2-4 Dell 2001 fp's, implying up to 16 tables. Along with PT and any other programs, I dont think 2GB is too farfetched...especially with how cheap ram is these days.

Bad advice is worse than no advice in some cases. Like when it involve spending others money. If you think PT and 8 tables of poker and some GT and whatever will use so much ram that you will need 2gb then I suggest you actually run some tests and se how much ram is needed...

I said I didn't want a 2001FP. I definitely don't want 2-4.
