Most profitable situations...

A friend of mine was complaining about how whenever he gets a monster hand, his opponents have nothing and he never wins big pots. Which got us talking about ideal situations that pay off the best. Assuming equal stacks of opponents and NL structure, what do you think are the most profitable situations? (read: you're going to get all their money)

I always think the full house vs. nut flush is a big one, but the flush has to see that paired board and at least think its a possibility.

Straight flush vs. nut flush might be the best.

Set vs. Over pair

Set vs. TPTK

Set vs. Top (or any) 2 pair

Lets hear some others.

Set over Set has got to be on that list

Re: Most profitable situations...

board reads 5 6 7 8 9 (or similar) with no 3 flush

you hold JT... you get the idea

or 7 8 9 J Q

you hold KT... you get the idea

Quads over quads usually pays well.

hahaha, I like it. The only way I think it would be better was if the AK [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] was one of the party donks that buys in for the table min.

Re: Most profitable situations...

Big card trips (ie, two bigs on board) against your small pocket pair that flops out a set. Big trips almost always hold up, and most bettors don't even consider a small boat lurking in the weeds. If the big cards are Aces or Kings, you're almost always looking at an all-in.

Re: Most profitable situations...

There have been alot of good hands posted.

But another thing that needs to be considered is position.

Sitiuation: board paired twice, three to a straight flush/royal flush: Qs Qh Js Jd TS

Full house (AQ) - all-in
Quads (JJ) - all-in
Small straight flush (9s 8s) - all-in
Royal flush (As Ks) - all-in.

If the full house is last, he might not call, figuring the best he might do is tie.

Re: Most profitable situations...

Even if the big-trips calls you are still only a 771:229 = 3.4:1 favorite. And I'm sure there are reasonable folks that will lay down say KT board KK4 when the tight-wad moves all in.

Re: Most profitable situations...

Nut straight with the flush redraw against the nut straight should guarantee you get all your chips in, and as a 2:1 favorite and cannot lose.

The most common "best" I've seen is a set against an overpair who plays "Limit", and won't lay it down for any amount of money.

I'm partial to trash in the BB that turns into a straight on the flop. It's paid me very well a couple times -- and heaven knows I've paid out enough on the receiving end, too, when I was betting from middle position and got foolishly proud of my TPTK or set.

Re: Most profitable situations...

I totally agree, I was playin the other day and i called a raise pre-flop putting the kid on two over cards. I had pocket 5's and flop came 4-5-6. He put me all in and I called with my set. He starts laughing and flips his pocket 6's.

actual hand doyle brunson played in...

he holds AA
millionaire fish holds 44
some other pro holds 22

flop A22... turn 4... river 4

best part is: he laid it down to the bets at the turn

Re: Most profitable situations...

how about least profitable?? or most misleading?

you hold A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and two opponents hold K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

flop comes A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
turn J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
river T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

an actual hand from today 2/4

board: 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

villain: Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Me: K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

that paid well.

I think you're talking about 'bad beat'. It goes to the second best hand.

I think quads vs. top-set-for-a-full-house is hugely profitable, more in the realm of possibility, and not yet mentioned.
i.e. 55 vs KK on 55Kxx board.

Actual hand I played in:

Board: A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Player 1: K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Me: A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Player 3: 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Needless to say I lost a lot of money. Three pocket pairs, and we all hit our set on the flop...

Best thing happened to me last week:

KK for me.
KQJ on the flop
J on the turn
2 opponents with AT

made me 27 big bets.
