My opinion was that Game made several mistakes on the hand drawing to a straight on a two to the flush board for likely half the pot and betting out when he made the straight but the flush had hit as well, then he compounded his error by calling a pot bet on the river. I thought there was a good chance my A4 low was good and I was freerolling him for the boat. After the hand he was cursing the river, interesting discussion..:

GamecockAl: helluva river
Hatchet01: ya, thanks for chasing though
GamecockAl: not chasing - had u on the high til you
u sucked out buddy!
GamecockAl: Please keep it up fish
Hatchet01: lmao
GamecockAl: up $400 tonight - this game doesn't
matter so don't freak over my play fool
Hatchet01: you made the mistake but I'm not giving
lessons today..
GamecockAl: LOl u giving lesson
GamecockAl: give me a break
Hatchet01: where are you up 400?
GamecockAl: u have no idea who I am!
Hatchet01: haha, good one
GamecockAl: up in NL Holdem - that is my game -
play o-8 for fun
Hatchet01: well, you have a few things to learn in
this game, won't question your NLHE game
Hatchet01: what does playing a tournament have to
do with actually being able to play the game well,
those are fixed limit tournaments as well.
GamecockAl: I played PL fool
GamecockAl: and have played high B&M games but
it doesn;t matter to you I guess

I think you played the hand fine. I think the opponent didn't play so well. His best play was to fold this trap hand preflop IMHO. Whenever someone turns up a hand chock full of cards between 5 and 9 and they weren't in a blind and they aren't drunk or steaming, play at any table you can find that person at. His starting hand was total garbage. What happens to him is exactly why his starting hand is total garbage. Even when he hits, he is often going to be freerolling a solid low with a flush draw or full house draw (a solid low with 2 pair has better than 50% equity against a straight that can't improve to a decent low). Learn from his mistakes and avoid no man's land, cards 5-9.

haha, thanks, that's what I thought.. wanted another opinion since he was insisting he was some kind of all-star.

He played a horrible hand and was pretty much dead to most hands (too easy for someone to have a flush and a better low) on the turn. Make sure you save a note.

I'll be the first to question his holdem skills since it doesn't make sense as to why he'd basically dump his winnings in omaha8 if he was a good holdem player.

I like the pot bet on the river since it looked like he had a flush for the high and you had that beat (even though I would have expected him to at least have a better low than what he had)

The chat sucks. Always commisserate with the losers as you're taking their money. "Damn, you're right, I did get lucky there. Didn't realize you were that strong."

You really think so? I get more mileage out of insulting somebody after I take their money. Of course, they remember this and when they end up stacking me, I get the insults back in spades, which sometimes causes me to tilt.

It would be sweet to figure out the expected value of various forms of post-hand chat. I'm always wondering about stuff like that. Such as, is a $163.69 bet more or less likely to be called than a $160 or $165 bet because of the odd chip amount? Knowing stuff like that would be very valuable

I think about this kind of crap all the time. I would go so far as to say that this is a reliable tell on me. Do you usually bet wierd amounts when you are looking for a call or the other way around?

Re: Thoughts on this PLO8 hand please

I'm too lazy. Mainly I think about it when someone else bets a funny amount into me... if I'm about to call I think "sh!t, that bet is probably designed to induce a call" and if i'm about to fold I think "Sh1t, that bet is probably designed to induce a fold". So for me the upshot is that I have a little less confidence in my decision. I don't think it ever swings the decision one way or another, but it does affect me a little.

Re: Thoughts on this PLO8 hand please

I think the weird bet must be designed to induce a fold. Lets say you are on the fence about calling or folding and see that weird change amount out there. Now you realize you will never be able to get that .69 over to Neteller, so your pot odds are really not as good as you think so you have to fold the close decision. I call this the false pot odds principle and it is one of my biggest money makers. When donkey's call anyway I give them a big lecture about how that .69 can't be included in the pot odds so they must fold their flush draws.
