college campus

On average, how many people on a college campus:

1. play poker
2. are winning poker players
3. are players that win more than 1k a month on PARTY skins.

You do realize some colleges have 1,000 students, some have 20,000, and some have 50,000, right? And beyond that some are closer to casinos than others making the population of gamblers there higher than at colleges no where near gambling hubs...

What do you mean on average? Are you asking if any of us happen to be researchers that polled students around the nation? Anyway, I'll answer personally.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. No.

Yea, thats why I said on average, I should have qualified that with some sort of stipulation, what percentage of college students on any given campus.

Well, if anyone has done that research it would be nice. Mostly im looking for college students to give an estimate on their own college campus, and then generalize and give another estimate to include the nation as a whole.

I was thinking something on the order of 0.005% or so would be beating poker. 0.001% beating party poker for 1k a month.

wow those numbers look a bit low. but you may be right. i am a college student (20), and i multi the 100nl and make over 1k a month. for my college, i would say about 25% plays poker, of the 25% about 2% plays seriously for money, and out of the 2% about .01% atually wins. and out of that .01% who wins, an even smaller percent makes over 1k. so i guess your guesses are not completely of. or maybe my guesses are terrible. but in my school. i know most of the players. and out of the ones i know only me and 2 of my friends win money consistently on the party skins. but im sure there are others in the school who win also.

Re: college campus

Many of my friends have tried and failed at playing online. I don't think the majority of college students stick around when they lose (esp. since we don't have a big budget) -- they'd rather play in the live cash games (smaller stakes).

Of my friends that have played for, say, longer than 2-3 months online, I'd say 1. Yes, 2. Yes, 3. Borderline no. Many of them (myself included) do break 1k a month, but many are at around 500-1000ish.

So I'd say the majority of long-term players are at least winning players (otherwise they would have quit), and many are beating it for 1k a month (I'd estimate about 25% of these long-term winning players are beating it for 1k).

My opinion might be generous considering it's a small sample size, so take it for what it's worth. (Btw, I go to UC Berkeley, and most of my friends are in the UC system.)

Responses will probably be influenced by the quality/population of the college as well.

You go to berkeley too? Wonder if we know each other...

I'm making about 1.5 BB/100 1-2 tabling, but not on party.

Re: college campus

Well, I go to college but currently do not live on campus (I commute). However this will change next year when I am moving on campus to finish my senior year. To answer your questions:

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes, $3-5k a month. I currently play 5/10 6-max but I have played all limits on PP up to it and spent some time on UB doing their 2/4 on 3/6 6-max.

I figure I am probably in the minority compared to all campus poker players.
