The Color of Money - Chip Decision
 

I've pretty much decided on getting a set of 500 Desert Sands chips. Now the decision is which denominations. If figured out an optimum breakdown with an excel spreadsheet. But the decision is between $1, $5, $25, $100 or $25, $100, $500, $1000.

The chips our home game plays with now are close to dice chips, but stamped with the $25, $50, $100, $500, $1000. We've been playing with these for a couple of years.

I like the Desert Sands chip color combination at the lower denominations (Blue, Red, Green, Black), and am leaning that way (BTW, the higher denominations are green, black, purple and yellow). But the other guys may be less than enthused about playing with lower denominations. It seems to throw everyone off a little even though blinds compared to starting stacks would basically be the same. For example raising to $6 just isn't as "cool" as raising to $150.

I wanted to get your thoughts.

the $1, $5 etc will be a lot more useful if you ever decide to run a cash game rather than a tourney.

I have a 500 set of Desert Sands, these chips are teh pwn. I have denominations of $.25, $1, $5, and $25. Tourney players start with $50 of chips no matter what the buy-in with blinds starting at .25/.50 but just as easily you could do $100-$200 with $1/$2. I echo that these are great for a cash game, so the dual purpose aspect is very handy.

Anyone who complains about it being $1/$2 instead of $10,000/$20,000 is a WSOP fanboy and deserves to have all their money taken at the table, just like Tiffany Williamson.

I ended up getting low denominations so I could switch back to playing cash games if I ever get off the tournament band wagon.

I got:

120 quarters
200 $1
120 $5
60 $25

These are used mostly for up to 8 player T100-T200 tourneys.

That should work.

FWIW, here's what I got:

150 quarters (gray)
175 dollars (blue)
125 five dollars (red)
50 twenty five dollars (green)
