amazon sales ranks
 

i just was looking at Caro's Book of Poker Tells and was amazed to see it was #99 on amazon.com's sales ranking.

this led me to check out the top 100. 4 poker books made the top 100.

#58 Super System 2
#86 Super System
#92 Theory of Poker
#99 Caro's Book of Poker Tells

it's interesting to see what people are buying.
my question is why does super system outsell 2+2 books? at least on amazon. is it better marketing, doyle brunson is more well known? just curious

on amazon.ca (the canadian equivalent) there are more 2+2 in the top 100 books sold... by 1 [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
...but SuperSystem 2 is the the current poker book leader at 19th
Holdem Poker for Advanced Players is currently 38th
Winning Low Limit Hold'em 55th
Harrington on Hold'em 57th
Theory of poker is 59th
and SuperSystem is 62nd
Small Stakes Hold'em is 229th
(Caro's Book of Tells is 349)

but these numbers change every hour so this isn't anything to go by.

after hunting moose there really isn't much to do sitting in my igloo. this probably explains why we canadians read so much more 2+2 than you yanks.

i guess i will have to take trips to play south of the border with the less informed.

Hi nutz:

Until today, we had three books in Amazon's top 100 (for the past three weeks). That's incredible for any publisher since they rank over 3 million books.

Since the poker boom began, Super/System has outsold our best selling books books. We believe it has something to do with all the publicity that Doyle gets. But we are now beginning to get our share of publicity, and the sales of our books have been just terrific.

Super System also, as crazy as it sounds, has an amazing title that gets people very easily. I don't know if Doyle stumbled upon it decades ago OR hired a marketing team (obviously it's the former) but you have the word "super" in there and "system" both of which would catch any would-be buyer / novice -- not to mention the alliteration. When you combine it with the Doyle Brunson name....

Super System 2 is a more recent release, which I would have to think makes a difference. Of course, this doesn't explain SS 1's success.

Maybe people haven't figured out that there is a second supersystem so they still buy the old one, or they want to buy both. I have both.
