Unskilled And Unaware Of It...

This may be old news as it was published in 1999, but it was new to me when I stumbled across it yesterday.

Unskilled And Unaware Of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments

I think the study and conclusions are pertinent to poker.

Haha, I read this and did a project/presentation on it for one of my MBA classes a couple semesters ago. It was definitely an interesting read!

I'm not defending Acrobat. However, it's not really that bad. Just sayin'.

What is interesting (if I interpreted the study correctly) is that the study shows that expert poker players are probably losing out on money because of "the false consensus effect." Like the top scorers of the various tests in the study they carry the burden of not knowing how competent they are in relation to other testers/players.

Of course one might argue that being a poker "expert" as opposed to a logic or standard grammar "expert" requires knowledge of your skill in the subject field as compared to other peoples skill levels. Therefore they do not carry the above-mentioned burden. This may make the study, which is a general analysis even more pertinent to a discussion of poker.

Dr. Al mentions this in one of his Cardplayer articles. here

He says it was discussed on 2+2 but I haven't seen that thread.
