Who shows?
 

If I call a bet on the river in LHE, the bettor shows his hand, and I go to muck, can the bettor request to see my hand?

Alternatively, if I make a bet on the river, show, and the caller mucks, can I request to see the hand?

And also, with whatever your response may be, is it like that in almost every casino or does it differ?

I THOUGHT I knew the answer to this, but a situation tonight, along with a couple people at the table agreeing, has caused me to rethink all of this.

Most card rooms you can request to see the hand if the person called the bet at showdown, the rule is in place to help stop 'collusion'.

Most every room has this rule. Some have variations of it.

Anyone that was dealt in may request to see a called hand.

The variation: only those involved in the showdown may request to see a called hand. I know of 3 players in Vegas that do it this way.

If you called, the bettor can request to see your hand. However, if your hand turns out to be the winner, the pot goes to you. If someone other than the bettor requests to see and you've mucked the winner, your hand is dead and the bettor gets the pot.

unless my memory is failing, the taj rules are the hands should be shown in order starting from sb regardless of last aggression, at least this is what the players state, ive never cared to ask a floor (not that that would give me the right answer either)

The rule is in place to help prevent collusion. In the first case described, no collusion is stopped on the given hand, only highlighted (possibly). In the second case, it is impossible to detect collusion. It is rude to repeatedly ask to see the hands of your opponents, and it slows down the game.

this is an odd rule, any place ive played, anybody who was in the hand at the start can ask to see a called hand, they dont have to be in the showdown

To the best of my knowledge, if you bet, and someone calls, you have the right to ask to see their cards. If someone bets, and you call, he shows first, then you muck, but, he can still see your cards. It's a dick move, but it's legit in most places.
