This is not a big deal. Marrying 1st cousins was a normal practice for centuries. I have relatives in other parts of the world who have married 1st cousins. Also, the likelihood of having a baby with deformities is greatly exagerrated (though indeed present).

Didnt the cousin taboo stem from property ownership laws or something? I remember reading that somewhere.

FWIW, Id say "NO" to 1st cousins for sure. Maybe cause Im close to all of them since birth. 2nd and on, I would defintately do it.

Aunt? (say you Uncle marries a person your age and then they divorce)

No, different situation. If my uncle is going to be a scumbag and marry a girl half his age he had better realize he's going to get cheated on, so it might as well be me.

My point is, when old men go around trying to monopolize all the young tang, all rules of engagement are off. If you mess with the natural order of things you have to live with the consequences.

So you are being situational. What if your brother were a real scumbag, would there be some scumbaggyness that would be reason enough to do the sister-in-law?

About 2 years ago I was working for Sam Adams as a sales rep. We had a national meeting in Boston where we were in groups doing various projects/promotions. We all went out one night to dinner at this steakhouse. There were about 9 of us there and were ordering many bottles of wine and any kind of alcohol you could imagine.

We were all just telling random stories about god knows what. Then this one kid begins to tell his story. His name was Beau, I remember it like it was yesterday.

He was telling this story how he was working at some bar and started talkin to some girl. They are drunk, she ends up going home with him. They have sex, and she stays over. The next morning they were talking about getting breakfast and he says he really wants some chocolate chip cookies and he has loved them ever since he was younger. She joins in saying yes, my grandmother made the absolute best chocolate chip cookies. He is like no [censored], me too. They start talking about how there was like a falling out between his dad and the grandmother and they dont talk to each other anymore. Then he asks where she lives, yada, yada, yada. They finally put 2+2 together and yea, they are first cousins and didnt even know it.

He is telling this story with a gigantic smile on his face like totally amused. The rest of us were in shock that he would voluntarily tell a story like this to a bunch of semi-strangers.

The funniest part is this kid was from Alabama, as all of us were in from all over the country. It just really topped off the story as he is saying it in a deep southern accent. It just confirmed to the rest of us "yanks" and "surfer dudes" that there are some really [censored] up people down in the south.
