Low limit in Vegas
 

I'm going to Vegas Aug 30th and I wanted to know what poker rooms there are. I'm used to playing .5/1 on party poker so I'd rather play as low limit as I can find.

Where are the best card rooms (as far as worst players are concerned)? I'm willing to play 3/6 if I have no choice but I'd rather not unless the games are really easy to beat. Even so I'd me most comfortable at a lower limit.

So where should I go? I'm staying at the Monte Carlo if that is a factor.

The Monte Carlo 2/4 is SSSOOOOFFFFTTTT!. Just play good cards and hope not to get sucked out. When I was there I didn't play any 4/8 (because I didn't have 300BB yet at that level) but I bet that game was soft too.. They usually have a half kill in some of their 2/4. In hindsight I should have played as high as I could go! Please don't flame! One must be able to look at bets as just chips...not money!

btw...I would just play in the evening...I went down at about 7:00AM and there wasn't a soul in the cardroom. Dunno when to head down there... 5PM to 8PM??. I think about 3:00AM or so is when it all starts to break up. Just good players left (I guess I had to leave then wink).

I don't have experience at other card rooms there.. Visit LA..those games are softER!

I have recently posted a question about equivalence from online to B&M in this forum. In my experience...I haven't found a game that I was scared to play in at B&M. (obviously I have to move up eh?)

If you have some cash...go for it! Play the 4/8 game at MC. If you just want free drinks play the 2/4 and get loaded.. believe me...you can STILL clean up. btw.. order 2 at a time.

This also reminds me. How much money do I bring? I'm not looking to play in B&M regularly so I dont think 300BB applies to me (I hope not).

I'm going as a vacation with a coupple people who aren't going to gambel or play poker (if you make the distinction--which I do.) So my play time is limited to maby 3hrs-5hrs a day for 3 days.

The rule of thumb is 25 times the big bet for a buy in. Most people buy in for a rack of white ($100)at a 3-6 table. Which is less than 25 times but it seems to work out fine. You need enough that you can afford to wait for decent starting cards and also to be able to get away from a losing hand when you are beat.

Ok, in Vegas here are a few options for really low limits:

1) Luxor has a $1-2 game after Poker lessions at 2 pm. Probably the cheapest game you'll find, and you get about 30 minutes of lessions just so you don't look foolish if you've never been to a casino poker table before. They have some cheap NL tournaments as well which may be good to help you get up to speed.

2) Excallibur has a 1-3 spread game. I don't care for the casino (smokey), but apparently, they also have some low dollar NL stuff as well.

3) Flamingo/Luxor/Imperial Palace/Palms/Binions have regular $2-4 limit games. Binions/Palms were the nicest poker room to look at of these, and may be worth the cab fare if you are staying on the strip just to see them anyway... but alas, yes, cab fare may be about $20-40 round-trip, which will probably eat substantially into poker winnings..

4) Mirage has low dollar satellites (~$20) for their NL tournaments which should give you good cheap practice. The regular low tables I believe are $3-6. Mandalay Bay and Bellagio are commonly at $4-8 as I recall.

5) I'd say at $2-4, you probably need to put down no more than $100. Most places have a minimum of about $40, but that probably is too low since one bad beat will knock you down about $20-30 even at $2-4. I think $100 will last you quite a while at these limits... and should cover a few bad hands.

If you're staying at Monte Carlo, play there. The 2/4 is soft, the staff is good, and it's a cool room.

micro brew at the MC IS SO GOOD..
300bb in a B&M is crazy for low limit.
if you need 1200 for a weekend of 2-4 need to find a new game of choice.

Excalibur had the squishiest games, and was spreading a 1-3 spread limit game with just one blind of $1. Very soft, with 7 or 8 seeing the flop. Once they limped, they were incapable of folding to a raise preflop. I hate smoke, but did not find the room too smoky. They spread a 4-8 with blinds of 1 & 2 the night I was there, and the game was about like the Party $.50/1 (as opposed to the 1-3, which played a bit closer to play money games online).

The 3-6 games at Mirage were soft, but way too many retiree rocks during the day.

As others have said, 25 BB is a good rule of thumb for a buy-in, but must bought into the 3-6 for a rack of blue ($100).

I brought $2K for my three days of 10+ hour a day play (mostly 3-6 & 6-12) for me and 3 days of 2-hour a day play for the wife. It was way more than enough. At 2-4 and 3-6 I would say you don't need to bring a whole lot. One thing, you might find yourself playing more than you intend. Time flies at the table, and if you have a very soft game with a couple major fish, you won't want to get up until they leave or bust out.

The Flamingo is nice if you are a non-smoker.
